Umbral gem won’t insert
I’ve seen a few people have issues with this but it’s still not resolved and I reaaally don’t want to go back and redo everything.

Whenever I click to try and insert the gem, the only prompt I get is “Use (character name)”. If I click on it, nothing happens. If I click on it multiple times, I get the message “can’t use this right now”. Has anyone gotten past this? I’m on PC

Use should open an insert dialog pane. Try long resting? That fixes some bugs.

Just did that :/ I also tried re picking up the gems, transferring the gems to another character except one, using different characters to insert, quitting then restarting the game, going around it at different angles.

Ok with the heads in the oubliette you can just position them in the correct spot where they should be by click-dragging them out of inventory and on to the object instead of using the insert dialog. The same might work for the first Umbral Gem?

Is there any way to move it higher up? I tried dragging from my inventory but it just keeps dropping near the ground

Guess not then. Moving on - here's what Prima Games says about the bug:

There are several methods you can use to fix the Traversal Gem bug in BG3:

Walk away from the platform before returning and interacting with the gem.
Long rest at the elevator before returning and interacting with the gem.
Drop your Umbral Gems on the floor and have one party member pick them all up.
Reload your last save and interact with the gems.

It sounds like you have tried some of these, but maybe this will help?

Tried all of those, I just put in a support ticket so hopefully will be resolved soon. Thanks for all the help!

Did you solve the problem? Having the same issue right now :(

I don't know if this is going to help anyone else. But I gave one character all the gems. Split them from the group. Went back to camp and went to sleep. Upon returning they were able to access the pedestal. I tried sleeping while still in group and that didn't work. Hopefully this helps other people.

I had a similar issue on PC and it was just a problem understanding the interface. When I clicked on the gears to insert the gem, a box appeared in the center of my screen that said "insert" and had a slot for one item. I clicked on that and it opened my inventory, which covered the insert box. I tried clicking / double-clicking on the gem and it said "can't use this right now." Then I realized you can drag the whole character summary and inventory panel off the side, uncovering the insert item box so that you can drag the gem into the slot from your inventory.

Feb. 5: Out of dozens of solutions, yours went right to the heart of the problem for a fellow PC user. Thank God for Good Samaritans like you!

For me I had to drag the character inventory out of the way and insert all three gems at once

Yeah, I have no idea why they still haven't done anything about the inventory covering insert prompts like that up. It's very bad UI design, and it's not like people haven't pointed it out.
