This is where I was going wrong as I thought it meant all spells for some reason.
I'm guessing Divination is a better school to pick in hindsight as those portent die are much more valuable than the situational sculpting. At least from a low level as I don't fancy throwing Gale into melee range just to pop burning hands or thunder wave.
Thanks chaps!
Divination is probably one of the best schools to pick simply due to portent and expert divination, it's honestly one of the more (if not the most) useful subclasses for wizard.
being able to blast your own party with a fireball and take no damage from it is surprisingly helpful. Ditto with thunderwave.
Being an Evocation wizard is almost like playing with training wheels on because you don't need to put any thought into positioning.
I think this is where I have been going wrong, because I'm always making sure my squishy party members are way back so they don't really get attacked.
I think I will respect Gale to divination given the feedback in here. Thanks again.
Attack Vs AC
Spell Pen Vs Spell Resistance
X Spell School VS X Saving throw.
Typically evocation spells are elemental in nature, but also include "resonance" spells.
Evocation is almost always countered by reflex saves, so chars with high dex, will save or take half damage from most evocation spells.
Enchantments typically defended by will saves, and things that poison or bleed or cause a harmful non-elemental effect are usually vs a fortitude save.
Basically any AOE in BG2 would hit your team, and it seems WAI for BG3, in a game with environmental effects.
