So invisibility sucks I guess?
Invisibility is literally nothing more than disadvantage when attacked and advantage when attacking. Instead of oh idk, actually being invisible for the purposes of stealing/looting/sneaking/or really any non-combat purpose. Guess shame on me for not reading the ability when I took it I just figured a spell called "invisibility" would actually make me invisible, and everything that comes with it, instead of just being a stupid combat trick. Hell I've tried to use it outside combat and enemies don't even roll a perception check it just randomly falls off and they catch me as if I wasn't invisible, even though it still had time left on it's duration.

As great as the game is this decision really baffles me and feels so counter intuitive to what the spell really should be. Why did they make the spell function in such a really weird way?

To limit shenanigans i guess.

That's weird, for me invisibility works like well... invisibility... are you sure none of the enemies have an ability to see invisible units?

invis for me has always worked fine. you cast it and nothing can see you anymore you can just walk up to a vendor surrounded by NPC's and pickpocket them no pros. (breaks after you steal something)

if you are using something like "pass without a trace" that isn't the same as invisibility. that skill only increases stealth checks by +10 makign it easier to sneak but you aren't invisible like you are with a potion of invis for example

Invisibility is not meant to be a way to completely supplant the stealth skill by using a level 2 spell. That would be awfully unfair to classes who are good at that sort of thing.

Combine greater invisibility with good stealth character ;)
It works amazingly well
And yes, invisibility surpasses stealth, unless enemy has ability to see invisible targets.

I find that anytime I use invisibility it's most useful if you toggle into turn based mode while you do your looting. You can immediately use more spells, potions, or scrolls, if you choose to steal or pickpocket. I also always save before hand in case I fail a stealth check roll. You CAN do a lot in 10 turns especially if you have double bonus action with dash. ;)

This is how it works in D&D. Invisibility makes you harder to hit but you have to successfully hide to be invisible as colloquially known.

With invisibility your chance to crit is 1 in 10, the enemy's is 1 in 400.

I'd say that's pretty bloody good.

I don't know many RPGs that allow you to interact with an object without losing the invisibility status. HL might be the only one I've played recently. Older TES games used to have Chameleon which functions similarly but not as effectively. But games usually restrict the spell so you can't just rob an entire shop blind. Though with a high enough Dexterity and Stealth Skill you can in this game--but I don't think you have access to the full stock.

You're doing something wrong.

Or I'm apparently running into an insane amount of bugs this run. Literally broken at Auntie Ethel trying to select a hair except one text box is overlapping another and I can't select interact with any of them, can't select a hair, can't even press escape to pull up other menu options.

As for the invisibility let's see I...

Cast it on Astarion who is my stealthy this run. Had him crouching to be in stealth and was going so far as the avoid all red areas and then low and behold without ever being in one he randomly stands up out of stealth and out of invisibility with a random NPC giving him one of their generic one liners. Attempts to stop this included using other characters to distract that NPC either via dialog or other spells but eventually I just had to cast fog cloud on what I wanted to steal and have him stealth through that.

So yeah this games logic, casting a big giant cloud of fog to obscure an area causes no reaction, but sneaking in while invisible means insta-caught without any indication of a perception check my the NPCs.

Were you sneaking or did you just lumber around relying entirely on your invisibility to keep you hidden? Because the game has a loading screen that tells you your enemies aren't deaf and can still hear you if you don't sneak while invisible.

Really? From my experience stealth isn't necessary when I'm invisible. As long as I don't do anything that break invisibility enemies don't detect me.

2 more things:
-every enemy seems to have the ability that lets them see invisibility. I just started a new game and one of the looters in the withers house used it.
It's like that joke about how everyone superman ever meets has kryptonite.

-some enemies I've noticed just ignore when you have it. Probably a glitch.

I've pretty much come to start feeling this. I wonder if everyone saying "it works great" are playing on tactician or not. If so then I would likely agree with it being bugged.
