punished for taking conversations before fights
99% of fights that start after conversation put you in the worst possible position. more often then not if you know its going to a fight its always better to just reload after getting the convo and start the fight without talking. also the amount of 4 v 20 fights are staggering. This game should of been 6 party members. I am really tired of watching npcs take turns.

Alert is the best feat. Enjoy getting to wreck the enemies before they can move.

But I think there is some logic in that you're making yourself somewhat more vulnerable when you show yourself to a potential enemy and try to talk to them, rather than just ambushing them.

You can move your characters while you're talking. Also some fights are better if you talk because you might not have to fight at all.

You can move the rest of your party around during dialogue, so if it looks like a fight, feel free to get a more advantageous position.

I faced the same dilemma. The fights earn more XP and obviously more loot, so even though from a role play perspective I'd rather use diplomacy and speech to avoid the fight, I'll kill them anyway because I want that loot. It would be nice if there were some better rewards for using diplomacy.

1. You can move characters into position during dialogue, this is partially what the turn based mode is for.

2. You certainly can just shoot them if you want, but i mean. Thats just cheese which is also cringe.

3. You do realise that for balance purposes if you had a party of 6 you'd be made to fight in 6v40's instead right? PC powerlevel scales significantly higher than creatures. afterall, PC's are designed to output insane damage, with NPC's designed to have good tank stats, which is the point of things such as legendary resistances and the such. This is basic DND DM philosophy when it comes to designing fights.

4. 6 char party would make this game near impossible to balance. As towards the end of the game you would have a screen literally full of enemies.

if youd played through act 3 youd know you already do. Fight SH last story fight and talk to me please. The fight has broken my game 2 times now and is slow and bad. Act 3 is ♥♥♥♥. this game is ♥♥♥♥ and i cant wait to finish it so i can uninstall it. so many game breaking bugs. win a fight and SH is just teleported to a prison she cant leave with no inventory. this game is broken.

For someone with your nickname, you surely seems to have troubles to execute some blitzkrieg in the encounters. The NPCs will not take turn when they are dead. And if your characters to not learn to multiattack, throwing up to three fireballs, attacking twice, thrice, quintice times, then you will have more issues later on.

As others have stated, you can usually move or setup your other party members that didn't get initiated in the conversation. Use that to you advantage, especially if you don't think you can resolve the situation peacefully. However, be aware that if you intrude too much into enemy space you can instantly start combat and you might be in a worse spot than originally.

High initiative helps here a lot, and letting you get off to a good start by leading or being higher in the turn order.

There's also plenty of minions, summons, etc, that can act as basically mini-party members / meat shields. A lot can stay around until they die or you dismiss them yourself.

The fight with Orin was like that to me...So i decided to let my party upstairs, talk to her with my mc and then i used fly to go back to my group. And then she took 3 turns to understood where i was while i was shooting her from above but that's an other story :)

Welcome to Larian.

You're not really supposed to talk to people, just bumrush them and abuse where you initiate combat from.

ok I dont run a sorc or fireball because im not bad, and it doesn't matter what you do in a room with like 15-20 npcs all spread out. obviously i handled the fight. thats not the point is the difficulty. its just always a better decision to fireball first ask questions later. thus the name. sorry im not bad like you and dont need cheese to win.
