I mean even if you lose the spear or whatever, you find tons of them lying around everywhere.
A high-Str build can do as much or more damage with a thrown weapon anyway.
Plus, it's FUN!
(EDIT: Asking due to curiosity. I realize that you can stack quite a few throwing bonuses without GWM)

It's one of the strongest builds in the game if build right.
Absolutely viable - had taken Karlach every time I needed some flexible damage output. Hasted she'll throw the thing 4 times dealing about 100-120 damage total per turn without any other dmg increasing setups. It's good enough for tactician. Only outshone by Lea'zel's damage output specced into a fighter with a late-game greatsword.
Add the gloves that give you lightning charges when unarmed. Because you're unarmed when you've thrown the weapon. It checks out.
Add the boots which give lightning charges when you're standing in electrified water, plus the ring that makes you immune to the electrified water effect.
