Paladin using branding smite automatically
Why is it that when my Paladin does a regular attack, even when an enemy is moving out of my range and my Paladin strikes he uses branding smite expelling a lvl 2 spell slot? It is annoying because I am wasting a lvl 2 spell slot on enemies I don't need to be using it on.

Thank you!

Is there a way to un-automate it? A manual reaction?

Sure.

Open your character screen / inventory - go for spellbook, switch to reactions tab -> set to always ask is what I recommend.

That way you can decide whether a situation is good to use it without missing it. Works great especially in situations where you have to pick between reactions.

Turn it off in your reactions. I think by default it is automatically applied if you ever crit an attack.

Personally, I'd like to think the Paladin is rather devout and being thorough in his practice of removing heathens.

On the reaction menu, simply turn it to "ask" and you should be good to go.
