Is there an order in which you're supposed to do the quests?
I feel my crew is either OP for some quests/encounters or underpowered for others...
I'm early in the game but i do not think its because my lack of understanding of combat mechanics.

I've came up with highelf/barbarian + shadowheart + theassasin + wisard... i always start combat with stealth one character enterinc combat then others positioning themselves perfectly (imo broken).

However i find that the whole HAG quest is pertty hard for my level 2 or 3 characters (definitely didnt reach lvl 4)...

I feel like i'm not supposed to be here yet... does the game balance the quests based on your levels or its fixed and you might get crushed somewhere?

Really it seems if i let enemies hit any character 2 times they go down. My approach is to basically not let them have the opportunity.

All the enemy levels are fixed. If things are too tough come back later.

some quest may definitely be a lot harder if you do them early

To be frank, a lot of your potential to win the difficult encounters at a "low level" hinges on your understanding of the game mechanics, which I'd not consider high-barrier-to-entry; rather, everything is accessible. The Hag can be tackled at level 3 reasonably well, especially if you have prepared to counteract a magic caster with powers such as Silence.

Barrels, the Larian specialty, retain their fabled virulence when placed appropriately before a battle as well. Part of the charm of such a title is being able to think your way through an encounter, even if the odds should seem stacked against you. I inadvertently happened upon a particularly nasty cave home to some large, eight-legged specimens of the inherently skin-crawling variety at level 3 and was able to negotiate the difference in level using what tools I had at my disposal, and even managed to inadvertently secure an achievement for my good work concerning the prevention of future spawn from hatching.

It's all about the groundwork you are willing to lay before beginning an engagement sometimes. Victory does often lie in preparation. If you walk into what seems like unfavorable circumstances then you can hardly be surprised when they are so. If you believe that the disparity in levels is the root of your problems though then I will merely offer this: there is plentiful experience to go around from resolving minor quests and through exploration. I was level 7 and approaching 8 by the time I left Act 1. If you are thorough then you will win out over many encounters and you will also realize what great power you have at your disposal at level 5 - level 5 ends up trivializing many of your previously difficult interactions.

Best of luck and all that jazz.

yes, but its not anything you can find out by doing. For example its perfectly logical and possible to grab your team with lazel, drive by the druid grove, shimmy up some vines, kill 1 sleeping dude, and waltz right up to the gith, fail a die roll and find yourself in a fight with 5 or so level 5 elite warriors at level 2. (its also possible to make the roll and get a bunch of XP). No one told you not to do this; its encouraged if you listened to your friend!

but the real order ... you are supposed to explore the ship, get asterior/gale/lazel/shadowheart in your team, hit the ruins to get withers, get to the druid grove, then blighted village and gnolls up to the toll house, at which point you are level 4 and can do pretty much anything in any order from there. But there isn't any guidance to KNOW this in-game, its just from playing the intro a couple dozen times back in EA.

The hag literally one shots my heros... since she starts with 4 clones i do not see how i'm supposed to survive it at lvl 3... i blessed them before entering into combat, prepared some spells to deal with her clones, even created some illusions.

But she snipes heros only bypassing illusions, and most of the time she one shots them... also for some reason the refreshed status disapears when the combat starts.

THanks, i think i followed your described order except right after druid grove i went after the HAG... kinda want to end her nasty existance.

This is a good post and spot on I think. It was the same for me in the Original Sin twins and most iso RPGs in general. I tend to tackle a fight straight up, and if it goes poorly I try again, but this time I prep to gain some advantages. Buffs, potions, coatings and so on.

I get where the OP is coming from, that fight is hard at level 4 or lower. But what tools do you have that might swing things in your favor? Just as one example, when I fought the hag I coated my arrows with drow posion which put the hag to sleep instantly and threw a water bottle at the cage. These are the sorts of advantages you need to identify, employ and execute.

the hag is just a nasty fight below level 4. Without using some sort of cheese, fighting stuff 2 levels above you is going to go poorly at best, even if you win you may consume all kinds of resources to make it happen.

the hag at level 2... hmm... if you still have them, the thrown stuff from the ship would be a godsend here. They can't outright kill the girl (they do like 1 damage aoe), but they can break 2 or 3 illusions each throw. That just leaves burning the real one down with low health and probably low end gear. Doable, but you may need to drive-by drop off some kegs to even the odds. If you were planning to do this to yourself, you could have 5-10 kegs by now (4 or 5 off the ship alone, but I usually use them on the demon).

i think i found a way, i use stoneheart to cast sanctuary (protecting the mage), then positioning her in the room so the hags cant hit ther but have to...

Then mage is just out in the open sniping all the clones.

OK i dealt with her but its as you said stupid cheese.
Mage concetrated on her with lightning and just hang around in hearby room zaping her over and over again... kinda funny, imagine them chilling having some drinks in nearby room and zaping the hag for fun :D

i whooped the hag and beat her without even going to the basement ... just sneak up on the upper floor and attatck her with familiar.animal and ended her before her turn

If you're having trouble with the hag, use poison resist elixirs. You should have 2 or 3 by the time you engage her.

Also wait till you're level 5, she's usually the last thing in the goblin/risen road zone you want to do before heading to the underdark.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
