The biggest problem is that their Invocation system is under developed.
Invocations should be much more important. Warlocks should get more of them, and there should be more to choose from. Particularly at-will casts.
But with some decent medium/heavy armor it's not really a problem
Here ya go:

Enjoy!
You will basically get heavy armor, two-handed weapon, a couple lvl 5 smites divine smites that can be restored with a short rest, full EB potential for ranged atacks, usefull things like devil sight and whatever other warlock spells you want ( like Hex for example for extra damage ).
And what makes it even better is how pact of blade works in BG3. You can basically just focus on CHA and CON. Be super persuasive, hit like a truck and have great surviveability.
The only thing i am not sure is how Sacred Blade works with the pact of blade. Will it add CHA damage modifier? Because the pact is already using CHA for that. if it works - that is even more damage potential on demand.
Warlock has a few magic items which really make them powerful. But it requires you to save all the Tieflings at the grove and in act 2 in order to get the best robes in the game. You also need to go on a scavanger hunt in act 3 for special gloves and you should be using Spell sparkler you get from saving Florrick. You've got 3 options when saving her, choose the staff.. its the best option. Also if you have an ally, say a cleric have them use the Phalar Aluve, a finesse longsword with a special ability which can add thunder damage taken to enemies in its aura. Even before you get the gloves from act 3 Warlock is easily the highest damage striker in the game because of eldritch blast. Do a sorlock build and you are the highest damaging striker in the game.
Warlock also has some great other multiclass options. Take 5 levels of warlock with pact of the blade to improve literally almost every melee build possible. Monk and Barbarian being the only ones I'd say have better options. Blade gives you extra attack with your pact weapon but that extra attack stacks with other extra attack sources. Personally, I'd go with Ranger as a pair for Gloomstalker and longstrider so I could get 20 extra feet of movement on turn 1 and an extra attack on top of that for more damage turn 1 along with heavy armor access but Paladin is the most popular choice. Bard is one I've done before with swords bard and its a lot of fun as well. Lots of level 3 spells per day.
He's also my lore/conversationalist which is quite useful if you like to talk your way through situations, and it's extra useful when it's attached to Tav who tends to do lots of the important dialogues anyway.
- it's got the best offensive cantrip (which scales with character level instead of class level) and is made better at level 2 with Repelling and Agonizing Blast.
- it uses Charisma, which is the one stat to rule them all in 5e
- The extra attack from Pact of the Blade at level 5 stacks with the extra attacks of other classes
- Pact of the Blade lets it use charisma for attack and damage with its bound weapon.
Either you do Warlock 2/charisma caster 10 or Warlock 5-6/Melee class 7-6 (Paladin's best, but really anything works). If that one trick is "use any weapon in the game skilfully" and "blast the enemy from anywhere with easy mobility" or "can reload their spell slots easily" or "immune to being disarmed" or maybe "can compete easily with fighters for free attacks damage output, at range".
Which of the one tricks are you referring to?
It's literally there for level dips.
You want a better warlock? Take two levels and then go pure sorcerer. Quicken spell gives you twice as many shots per turn and just gives you overall better spellcasting. Grab the staff that gives lightning charges on cantrip hits, be a blue dragon sorcerer, and now that nifty charisma bonus can get added to each eldritch blast twice, grab the right robe and now it's three times for a static +15 damage per shot.
Don't want to rely on eldritch blast? literally no reason to be a pure bladelock, take 5 levels of bladelock and 7 of paladin for oathbreaker aura. Congrats you now have 3 attacks and two short rest level 3 spell slots. You're literally better than a pure paladin or a pure warlock at fighting.
It's kind of like Cleric, there's legit no reason to go pure cleric. Take one level of wizard and you have the same spell slots but the ENTIRE wizard spell list to use.
Also you have access to one of the best mage armor very early on if you kill Karlach and then you use armor of shadow from the pact boon. Not to mention pact of the blade which give you the ability to use any weapons in the game.
Hex is very powerful early on. You can blow up the commander Cambion very easily with the combo.
