You dont become a full one for long and the half one just give you a cracked face.
Honestly with how ugly all elf faces are i didnt even notice the difference.
The question is this:
Are you planing to go full Illithid?
If no and your face matters to you then dont do it.
The powers are neat but nowhere nearly as good as a wizard, cleric or druid spelllist.
