The natural flow is Goblin Camp > Underdark > Mountain Pass.
The true point of no return is entering the Shadowfell however entering Act II (Mountain Pass) will auto-resolve the Goblins vs Druid Grove questline.
Underdark and mountain pass send you to the next act.
Make sure to do act 1 first.
I suggest mountain path as it is short and easier to travel(As in less confusing terrian)
Underdark only if your a drow.
Underdark
Mountain pass
The point of no return is entering a very dark place... you will see it. In essence you can do all 3. Just starts closing things off once you enter the shadowed lands of the curse... and REALLY closes them once you enter the shadowfell
then underdark until you get to the elevator that would take you to act 2,
then mountain pass
Then visit the Creche as an aside in Act II just for some sunshine and to keep my Giths happy.
That said, I'd say there is no better or worse path out of dealing with the under dark and the rest of the camp. The rest of the camp will be a lot of combat but the under dark is more content than that.
The point of no return is taking the lift from the Grymforge (in the Underdark) to the shadow-cursed lands, or following the road into it after going through the mountain pass.
The point of no return is far into Act 2 and the start of Act 3. Those are the only two points you get locked out of zones and the game very clearly tells you it's happening.
You can do almost all of Act 2 before being locked out of Act 1 as long as you postpone the Nightsong questline.
The point of no return is when you enter the shadow cursed lands, but its not a total point of no return. It just moves around characters to act 2 but you can still enter act 1 easily. The true point of no return is near the end of act 2.
Also, since most people miss this(slight spoiler for the tiefling/goblin quest), but its what I feel is the coolest way to finish this quest If you tell The drow lady where the grove is or allow them to find out some other way, they will do a big climatic battle at the emerald grove which is much cooler than just a few boss battles. It may be too late. You may be able to trigger this by getting Halsin out of the goblin camp at then talking to Zevlor but idk. I would recommend being around level 5 for this fight
-Goblin Camp
-Underdark, including Grymforge
-Gith Creche
To clarify, there are some things that you HAVE to do before leaving, specifically the Grymforge section. DO NOT leave or short/long rest while in grymforge area if you care about the conclusion there. I also recommend doing the Gith Creche area only after everything else is done because entering that area forces events to progress for Act 1, which I imagine includes the Druid Grove scenario and maybe the Grymforge event.
Not a bug, just an alternative. You can travel with him and be ambushed , find him on his own, or ambush him yourself
