(ridiculous) size of patches

at launch size of game's folder was around 120 Gb
now, after some patches and hotfixes, it's 141 Gb

last hotfix (37 Mb on download, pair of minor fixes according to changelog) has added ~1 Gb. are you guys really FIXING broken code or just ADDING new over the top? is it new standard in the industry - when game takes 20 Gb more of disk space after just some patches, without adding any new content?

do i need a new 1 Tb SSD just to successully get all the patches for baldurs gate 3 in next pair of month?

From all my years of online gaming, about 20 or so, I've NEVER seen bug fixes really affect the size of the patch file, unless they had to rewrite ENTIRE lines. Generally a game file's main size changes when content is actually added in, like the finalization of Karlach's story, where she travels to the hells.

I would assume the 37mb update was unlocking 1gb of content previously locked behind code, but was already downloaded.

....that's not how that works...

The update was 37mb of code WITHIN a 1GB portion of the game files. The way it works is Steam downloads the new stuff, unpacks the games file where the new stuff needs to be, patches in the new stuff then repacks the file.

If you notice when downloading an update, it will say, downloading then patching/installing.
