It's not even 'Light Armor' ???

How or why is this a thing?

elaborate, which robes are considered armor? I haven't run into any that are considered such.

They're not? For example: Karlach gets AC buff for not wearing armor, she can wear a robe.

It's called Potent Robe classified as 'Very Rare CLOTHING'

It literally won't allow use of Mage Armor which only works if the character has no armor

They go in the armor slot, I guess. Robes are AC-neutral vehicles for "armor" effects, specifically for classes like Monk and Barbarian that gain bonuses for being unarmored. Don't think of robes as clothing, there's seperate slots for that.

i have to take the robe off for the mage armor to not grey out on me

I've had no issues with that robe being considered armor in my playthrough, what exactly isn't working with it?

I didnt even know there was clothing that had qualities outside of common.
