If you're talking about assaulting alongside the goblins, I dunno. You should easily be able to reach level 5 without even touching the Grove quest. I generally hit level 6 from that quest.
Edit: Are you talking about the Goblin Camp that you need to clear out in order to save the Druid? A single Cloud of Daggers at a choke point can kill half the goblins for you, without you even having to do anything other than wait. If you really want to cheese it, use Minor Illusion to gather them all in one spot before you start the fight and then cast it on them, hitting 7+ at once and killing them on the start of their turn.
If they are too powerfull there are few options.
Exit via other entrance (there is more entrances)
Or kill one monster, leave area, return, kill another, its afwull, but if you have no other choice...
Or Exit via other entrace, and buff self with best weapons, potions, scrolls, etc... its legit, because you know, they wait for you.
Yea, that fight is very hard.
It is is suggested you save scum the Ogre horn (Or just offer to pay them) to help you in battle. Blow the horn. The ogres show up and tank most of the damage and die.
He might mean attacking the grove with Minthara?
The first fight at the gate is virtually impossible to lose isn't it?
Generally this fight is easy as everything else, unless You want to save everyone on Your side, then You want to get 2 of Your strongest fighters on the sides to save archers from jumping spiders, have ranged damage/support in the middle, drop something like hunger of hadar on the ground, so enemies can't shoot You, make use of explosive barrels in the ground, once they breach the gate(if), make it into oven with grease, bombs and some fire damage, can even plop an explosive barrel in there, if You want, then again - hunger of hadar(preferably)/darkness, and let them burn being unable to do anything, only minthara has any chances of surviving it, since she can heal herself, but then You can just 4man her, so again - easy.
I stabbed the goblin on top of the hill in the back with Astarion and then simply did the whole "fight" with crossbows ( Nautiloid copres are full of them, i just temperarily equiped all classes with them no matter their stats since they are so low level and weak at that point ) from the hill, THAT easy. No grove NPC even got killed.
If he means assaulting the Goblin camp there are several ways to do it. Easiest way is get the ogre summoning horn so they join in. But i also learned you can poison their drinks. That said, i don't think it is necessary to use such methods at all. If you cannot handle like 15 easy-medium enemies, what are you going to do later in the game ? It is all about throttling them into fighting only 1 -2 at a time using choke points, not all at once. Watch "300" for a good example of that lol.
