Oh jezz, thank you! I am blind
Ha, no worries. We all know the feeling. Enjoy the game!
Ty,ty. Asking coz i've found some items that say 'high spell casting' thought it would increase spell attack rolls but it's only for Spell Save DC.
Thanks, both of you!
You'll find a few items later on that have both.
Spell Attack will increase your hit chances with anything that uses an Attack Roll, which it will say on the spell tooltip. Like Fire Bolt for example.
Spell Save DC is for any spell that requires the enemy to make a Saving Throw. Spell Save DC basically makes your spells hit harder and stick more often to the enemy.
For example Fireball will only do half damage if the enemy makes their dexterity saving throw. Spell Save DC makes that saving throw harder and your Fire Ball will do full damage more often.
It'll also make spells like Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Hold Person, Slow, Confusion and such stick more. If those fail it's a wasted spell. It's kind of funny casting Tasha's on someone and them just rolling aroudn on the ground laughing while trying to make a saving throw that is impossible for them to make.
I would like to say it makes perfect sense now, but i think i am back at square one.
So i've found this item https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3031658152
Does it increase the chance of my character landing a spell like Hold Person, or does it increase my 'defense' against it ?
Sorry to bother you, but that 'Save' makes me so confused
Oh man thank you so much, i was unsure about it for the longest time. Now i can finally equip my mage with some proper gear. TY!
1) attack spells - *you* roll a d20 and add your spell attack modifier to beat *their* armor class ( examples: scorcing ray )
2) save spells - *they* roll a d20 and add their saving throw modifiers to beat *your* spell DC ( examples: hold person, fireball )
For the most part the 2 follow the same progression, but there are items and effects in BG3 that will add to only one of them.
Also I lied there are way more kind of spells, but for the purpose of this conversation we can ignore those ;)
