Fly is kinda dumb
In Cazador Castle, I used Fly to access the crates on the lower level, and now I can't go back up, even though I can see my other characters there, floating in the air because the game is only showing the lower level. I'm okay with Fly not working to keep me levitating in the air; I think it's dumb, but I'm okay with it. What I don't understand is why I can't use it to go to a higher level. Aren't Fly, Enhanced Leap, and Misty Step supposed to be used to solve these kinds of problems? Or am I to assume that these spells are only for movement in battle? Because if they are, it is dumb.

I believe the problem you're experiencing is more about understanding the range of the spell. Even though fly "technically" isn't a ranged spell - you're not a bird suddenly and cannot fly until exhaustion - there is still an upper limit to it's range. The same can be said about misty step/enhanced leap. There is a limit to how far reaching the spells are which out of turn can be hard to identify/recognise.

Actually, no. The problem is that the game doesn't show a surface that I can fly to. The same thing happens with Misty Step. I know I have the range to get there because if I didn't, the game would tell me. In this case, it doesn't even show the range marker where I want to go; it locks to the ground level and not the platform my companions are on.

It's useful for shortcuts in most places.

If this is the case try switching to tactical view by pressing "O" on your keyboard - I have found this to help in some situations and this sounds like it could be one of them. I myself have not encountered what you're describing but this could be a work around as you get a top down view instead.

Oh, I was in the same boat you are and remember well that I couldn't see a platform to jump back onto. I think its the camera angle of that specific area. I left the dungeon and fast-traveled back to it. Only thing I could do.

It's actually a camera issue.

For it to work the game would have to offer some kind of global view to all group members where you can select and command them with the same camera position and angle no matter what charackter you select. But to command one you have to focus on that char and then the camera zooms in and can make it very difficult till impossible to aim for the desired position. Same with holes in the ground you want to jump into. Just think at the hole in the goblin infested selune tempel of act 1 that leads down into the spider nest. At least i have to rotate the camera quiet alot to successfully aim for jumping down with as little fall damage as possible.

Yes, the camera control in this game sucks.

I had the exact same issue, it was frustrating to say the least.
Best way to solve it is to use the door downstairs to exit the castle then warp back inside.

The camera could definitely be a lot better. I found a work around, since I still got members higher up I select the skill and doubleclick their portrait. Since you are casting a spell you won’t switch character and will see their point of view. Just click up there and voila, flying upward.
