They tend to be just slightly more powerful than their half-fiend opposites. They were released in a later book (Monsters of the Multiverse has them, and probably a title released before that may as well.), but looking at the entry, they have an ability to generate temporary flight via radiant wings. That's usually a no for most DMs at low levels.
Also, they'd probably have or bear an immunity to the illithid brain worm.
Aasimar and Tieflings are one of the six general planetouched races. The others are the Genasi (Air, Earth, Fire, and Water).
However, what the kind person above says also resonates: the PHB is clearly the main source of the game's content, or I'd have something I want to use to multiclass my wizard with barbarian. :)
Seems weird.
Are they the ideal paladin race?
Is this like uhhh elementals?
Aasimar were playable in D&D 3.5 and D&D 4, but no-one ever used them so they got moved out of the PHB.
Dame Aylin is an Aasimar and from what I hear(not confirmed) she does have files in the game that show the developers considered giving her a storyline about turning Fallen but scrapped it
Deva?
Honestly she's neither and both at the same time somehow. Officially she's listed as Deva on the FR wiki but it's clearly stated in the game that she's Aasimar. Her regeneration/reincarnation also doesn't fit the lore as in 5e it'd take 10 years for a Deva to recreate a body and don't retain their memories. She feels more like a 4e Deva than a 5e but then again BG3 is supposedly only drawing from 5e.
