How do you roll on DC 30?
So, one way - reload possibly dozen of times till you get that "critical success" aka "I roll twenties". Are there any other ways to make it so that you can actually beat the DC 30 without rolling (only) 20? That would mean you'd need 11 or above bonus - which is.. how, exactly? Ability goes to 20, so +5. You can get proficiency and maybe +1 from equip? Still way short of that 11? With bless I think you get to 10(?). Anything else?

Easily depending on class, proficiencies, and a bunch of other things.
My main character regularly rolls 30+ (highest I've had so far was 36) on persuasion and intimidation.

My Astarion can't roll below 16 with slight of hand checks unless he hits a nat 1 and also regularly gets 30+.

It's all about stacking proficiencies, skill bonuses, and sometimes spells like guidance, bless, thaumaturgy, etc.

I roll more critical miss 1's than 20s.

Well, in a certain critical plot event I was asked to roll a DC 30 persuasion. It is of course possible to do without but I don't like the outcome - at all. So.. yeah. But okay, your math shows that there are ways around it. I've just missed it. Looks like I can go to something like 12 or 13.

P.S. For the love of donkeys, it's NOT sleight of hand :) That one allows retries given the right tools - almost always (PP isn't my thing anyways)

What about the DC 99 for a relatively trivial puzzle in the counting house vault in act 3? What the hell were they thinking setting that one to DC 99 when everything else tops 30-35? Not mad it's just goofy.

Having a pocket rogue is handy even if you don't plan of using them often. just pull them out of camp when you wanna unlock something.

It's not absolutely necessary though. As long as you don't mind being loud you can use the knock spell to unlock most things, and Dex characters usually have a decent chance even without expertise.

Depends, on stats getting a 20 I believe will always turn it into a success. Then got bonuses but generally the best is gear that has something the cat on it. Can't remember the clothing name off top of my head but it allows 2 dice to be rolled. During lockpicking and disarming.

I have a Rogue with +14 I believe, add Guidance to that. It's difficult, but not impossible. There is a ring giving you +1 sleight of hands and stealth (I think), really good for rogues. Also Rogues get this ability that they cannot roll below 10 on some checks, so it makes most of the A3 lockpicking/disarming super easy.

If it's not locked by magical means, knock will open those no problem

Needs a 12 to hit a 30, can never roll under 10

My luck would be to keep rolling an 11 lol

Expertise, bardic inspiration, guidance. Advantage helps a ton.
