Well, i play it single player, like i guess the majority do.

But you can play it with drop-in/drop-out. Last patch allows the host to store player characters, so people can come and go as they please with their custom character (IF they started the game with you). If they want to join later, then they have to take a Larian character.

Enabling people to join with custom characters part way through would be tricker. XP is not an issue, it could just be set to whatever it is for the main character, but items. Do you allow people to import characters with their own equipment? Then you've got to add character export/import.

Its a decent idea, would just require some extra work. Maybe with the definitive edition whenever that comes out...

This type of game is HOURS and HOURS, there is no way anyone would want drop in and out play. And if you say you do, you only are wanting it to troll other peoples games, which people already do because people were unaware they were hosting a multiplayer game

Bruh, I cannot ensure I'll be there for 100% of the playtime with no idea how long the game is... Many other coops do this, that player whos absent can simply join whenever they can, and the rest arent worse for it...

You should play it by yourself the first time, so you can choose and explore. You can miss a lot playing with friends because we're all going at different paces.

Some people, especially fans of this particular genre, often PREFER single-player games. Crazy concept, I know. I'd bet money if Larian were to release the stats that less than 10%, maybe even less than 5%, of players have ever even clicked the multiplayer button.

long story driven game tend to expect you to play with the same people through large parts of it, otherwise it wont make sense.

Bruh, Idk if you know this but people have lives and people dont always get along or vibe with the same game for as long as others right? I can invite a friend for TF2, they might enjoy an hour of it and dip... but at least my RPG SAVE FILE PROGRESS SHOULD BE RESET BECAUSE OF IT

I've been able to deal with work and friends still have those 3 to 5 hours of free time to play bg3 together.

This appears to be an organization issue.

tf2 is a class shooter, not an rpg.

you can also have multiple saves, one for your friends and one for yourself.

Singleplayer is more optimal if you actually want to build strong bonds with your companions by taking all approval points from them instead of random distribution among player avatars.
Also, I don't get people who play with drop-ins games like this. It's not TF2 or another multiplayer PvP shooter where you couldn't care less who to play with. Treat it like a tabletop game - after you've invited someone to play, you won't give their place to anybody else.
