I agree, maybe i'm too much of a boomer, but Karlach does feel and sound way different than a D&D character in "this" world of BG3. I do have to caveat this and add that BG1 and 2 have characters that break the norm. Like that one companions that quotes Molnty Python's quest for the Holy Grail.

So that being said, Karlach sounding like an influencer, and breaking the 4th wall etc. isn't necessarily out of the norm for the Baldur's Gate series.
I do miss having a choice of 20+ companions tho, when we are limited to 11 I feel like we are stuck with characters we don't like.
Imagine fight in the hell for years, as a soldier, and still talk like a californian b*tch. Definitely something to be admired
Yes i think it's called being creative.
Because having a soldier with ptsd and always serious is kinda of a hassle.
Because she is only feminine companion out of females.
Oh, the freedom of choices.
Want Strong Independent Women for romance? Plenty for choices. Want femine female, you are stuck with Shadowheart, no other option.
No wonder she is most popular.
The former attack dog of a fallen angel sounds too OP for a lvl 1-12 adventure. Just saying.
Don't know about others but i adapted my romance to my Tav, a quiet ranger who is quite fond of secrecy so Shadowheart was an evidence.
If i had played a warrior, a standfast Tav would have gone with Lazael and a light hearted one would have choose Karlach.
And of course Evil durge is going with Minthara but Good durge would have choose Karlach too for strong arms and caring words i guess :)
***Insert Cartman*** "What's the big deal? It doesn't hurt anyone. ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥."
How does her background and story make zero sense? She is a Tiefling who grew up on the poor side of Badlur's Gate, and was pretty much sold into servitude to an arch devil in the first level of hell. Where she got REALLY good at killing demons. She is a pretty simple character. Nothing more than what she appears to be. Which makes her fun. She is like that jock that never really grew up.
insightful
It's the simple things, really.
To be slightly more serious, the voice actress for Karlach played the main character in a game called "The Excavation of Hob's Barrow." And as soon as I learned that, I HAD to find Karlach.
