The "Stop The Presses" quest has got to be the most broken, buggy, pointless, and awful quest I've seen in this game.
The editor decided he wants to write a hit piece on you, regardless of your actions in the game. There is no "source" to talk to, no information about the editor, nobody to trigger the quest (unless you go looking for them), and no further info about the quest.

You are suddenly told by the editor that you maimed and harmed a bunch of circus folk, and that everyone will hate you tomorrow.

Your only options are for you to attack everyone after the conversation, or have the guards attack you after the conversation. We don't know how to talk to the editor without him calling the guards to attack us.

I did not know that I attacked circus people (but we found a clown torso)
I don't want to turn my paladin into an oathbreaker. There's any number of ways to do this just by talking to the editor.
I am not given any dialog options to talk to anyone about it.

We tried the route of killing everyone, and obviously everyone still hates us.
We tried swapping out the stories, and everyone still hates us.
We tried killing everyone and taking everything and the hit piece was still somehow printed.
We tried not talking to anyone and swapping out the stories and everyone still hates us.

literally the third person in town I talked to told me about it. imagine quests being behind conversations with people. how unexpected. lol.

I snuck on the roof, went downstairs, popped and invis potion, and changed the story. Got hate from someone for removing the puzzle section for a puff piece but that was it.

Everyone love me, sadly i offed Gortash in the same news cycle so I never got to see the print. But the merchants all got a tiny boost

Same thing here, you learn really quickly that the game always propose a more "silent" option than running your sword though the guts of the opposition.

Imagine not wanting to talk to every single benign NPC with 1 line of dialogue. Who would have guessed you're SUPPOSED to talk to literally everyone on the street.

Out of the sea of NPCs, which is the only one on the street that starts this quest?
OP must ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up so bad only attacks available. In my 1st playthrough I have attack, escort out of Baldur's Mouth or Leave and sneak into basement and swap the print slab

why wouldn't you want to talk to people in an RPG game where talking to people leads to quests? and pretty sure there is more than one way to start the quest. in fact, you don't even need the quest to change the story.

That's what's so confusing. The only option after talking to the guy is "Continue." then the guards attack.

There's no conversation option with the editor that leads to a peaceful solution. We thought the editor was tadpole'd or something, but there isn't one on his body.

When you only have "continue" it's a bug, you need to reload the dialogue.
