Imagine female Gale

She (if we only alter appearance and gender, and keep all other traits/backstory of Gale intact):
1) Is a powerful witch
2) Is casual about relatshionship be it romance or frienship, also bi
3) Overall cheerful personality, + the usual Chaotic Neutral frolics
4) Posh thiccc pale-dirt-blonde colored hair
5) Is a rich self-made person out of Waterdeep
6) Experienced wizard with dozens of magicka stories from her travels to share
7) Kinda valued amoung top mages of the cost even knows Elmisnter himself
8) Courted a goddess once (Yuri ahoi!)
9) Has dark curse and a looming duty to fullfill
10) Witty comments & gets along well with most of the crew

Imagine how big of a better chracter she would be! A totally favorite char for both good & evil parties. Literally top girl, who would need Minthara Karlach or Shadowheart in that case!

While male Gale is just "yet another posh stereotypical hairsaloon boy". (imo)

Ogre Battle has Deneb and she's an attractive and powerful witch who flirts with the main character. Sort of reminds me of her.

She is also absolutely evil and turns peasant farmers into pumpkinhead zombies.

Personally i like gale, he isn't my favorite character, but it's because how good other characters are.
If anyone complains they accidentaly ended up romancing him, then they are social inepts, who think they will get to pet kittens when someone says they have kittens in the basement.

Baldurs gate 3 is just a bad and untalented Game Master narrating a 3 type of solution for a campaing. There is not a single character that is good in lore, development, and carismatic. Even Minsc they took wrong of him, he is not a retarded person with 2 on inteligence....he is a might ranger, not a clown.

I don't think there was any admission of him being poorly written, there was a patch that added 1 additional line in one conversation (not even for him, but for the player character instead) and fixed some stuff in another one. That's not rewriting a lot of his dialogue, and If that constitutes him being a "poorly written character" then you have a very poor understanding of writing in general.

The problem is that he's excellently written... Most of the time. When it comes to his romance triggers, his actions undermine his previous cheerful and witty demeanour and paints the picture that he is a manipulative creep that thinks he's owed a relationship because he was nice to you. IF that was the intention, they succeeded, and yet they still fell short in terms of allowing the player to react the way most people would in that situation.

Honestly, I read Gale as a powerhungry egomaniac first, who should also listen to his brain more that his nether-regions:

He's charismatic, for sure and his witty banter makes him likable initially.

He even seemed to understand how he f'ed up with his goddess and when he first told me
the story I could understand his desire to "right his wrongs".

But in a later conversation he basically said that he bedded his godess simply for the knowledge and power he could gather from her, but it was never enough for him and that he didn't for a second stop to think before he took the part of the stolen/destroyed weave in.

And as soon as we learn about Nightsong he wants to study it (which didn't change after we learned the truth). As soon as we learn about The Orphic Hammer and The Crown of Karsus he's all about how these things are so powerful and we need to know more and they could be useful and need to get them/study them- he has learned nothing!

Honestly, Mystra's command is his best option besides staying in his wizard tower and not touching anything more interesting than a light spell ever again so he doesn't accidentally undoes the multiverse again.

For real, if anything Larian made a public statement that a bunch of people don't know how to interact with a human beingg so they put "YOU ARE FLIRTING" in front of Gales dialogue.
