need something between explorer and balanced.
being a newbie to the genre, i die too often on balanced and the game is too easy on explorer. pathfinder WotR has 7 difficulty options and many crpgs have 4-5 on average

Perhaps you might try Balanced but with a co-op friend? That way it's mildly easier?

Where do you seem to be dying the most?

I died a lot starting out, but you'll find your stride with it. Also a LOT of battles can be avoided with dialog choices. lol there was one in particular that was just amazing after I died 10 times in a row, I was like well.. what if I choose this, and ended up starting a chain that led to (spoilers). Just keep plugging away at it.

mini boss battles

This game is much harder at the start. Dying a lot is not a bad thing, just remember to quicksave. Try different strats, plan ahead, push things off cliffs, use buffs/debuffs, elixirs, scrolls.

Learning to play is part of the game.

Boss names? Is it the goblin camp?

Nah we need more difficulties harder than tactician, the game is easy as hell on its hardest setting. You're hardly a newbie to the genre if you've played pathfinder and other CRPG's. Your difficulties sound like they come from your lack of experience with the game and its mechanics (and maybe DnD?) rather than the "difficulty level" itself. Take your time and get used to the game first, you'll find it really is easy once you know what you're doing. The game is harder at the start than later on when you have high lv spells and gear.

If i was you, i will invest, let's say... 1 hour to look at some videos on YT to see the tips (most of them, simples) which change very much in combat.

IE, at every fight, put your cursor on an enemy and press "T", you will inspect the creature and you will see that she's immune to fire, so your weapon with fire or spell with fire will be ineffective, etc, etc... there are much more simple tips like that!

Don't sleep on consumables. Potions, coatings and scrolls can give you a big edge in battle. Also, in battles where you don't aggro immediately, try to position yourself around. You can easily win harder battles if you create chokepoints or places hard to reach. Making surface into ice or acid helps a lot and there are plenty of arrows for this purpose.
you should really utilize what the game gives you more. tactician can get cheesy at certain stages, but balanced should be fair if not easy, if you make sure you use every resource you have. and have a team that can synergize with each other rather than being just a bunch of gladiators.

You can switch during the game. Play on normal, go to story when you need help, switch back.

It doesn't.

The thing is you need to survive to level 4 by any means necessary. Use stealth, kill unimportant lone NPCs, do quests that do not require fighting etc.

After level 4 your mages get fireball and fighters get 2nd/3rd attack per round and the whole game on Balanced becomes basically an easy walk-in-the-park. It can be hard only at first few levels, and especially if you don't know how abilities work in DnD and created a bad character.

Just wait for level 4.
