Karlach romance still bugged

After releasing such a huge patch for Karlach, why is the romance still bugged?

Talking specifically about start of ACT 2 and how Dammon gives Karlach the ability to touch again. If you don't do a Long Rest in a very specific order before and after, the romance is forever bugged and cannot progress.

I expected to have my night with Karlach at the camp, but instead I get a cutscene with Wyll dancing and trying to seduce me, which was really jarring and confusing.

If anyone has any tips for how to fix this, I'm all ears. Not very interested to revert 3+ hours of gameplay.

It's actually not. I thought so in my playthrough when I started act 3 and she suddenly decided "we drifted apart" when she had no more interactions ever since Dammon's fix - but after reloading the post-Ketheric save and just resting 5 tmes she eventually progressed that storyline for me. Coincidentally, the Owlbear cub also finally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ showed up.


What I'm saying is, try resting a bunch of times in succession. Fixed the problem for me.

I've heard that until recently she had no happy ending, now she has one linked to romance, but I'm romancing someone else. I want to save her, she's awesome.

Had this same thing happen last night, unfortunate because it's a Dark Urge playthrough and I was looking forward to seeing how the romance with Karlach specifically plays out.

O really?? Thanks I'll give it a shot. I'll do anything to not lose 4 hours of progress xD

EDIT: I can confirm that this worked. I only needed to do 2 consecutive rests and that fixed it. In between both Wyll and Gale tried to romance me, but afterwards Karlach's dialogue came up in camp. Thanks dude!

Piggybacking off of this, I've just tried the above fix and got nothing as of the start of Act 3. I rested 6 times and the only dialog that appeared for me was Halsin attempting to romance me. My last personal interaction with Karlach was hugging her after fixing her engine in Act 2. Bug still isn't quite fixed it seems.

It needs to be done before she decided you two are done - so you'd have to reload a save from before you left the shadow lands and try resting there.

I don't know if this is the bug, but I think I'm locked out of Karlach romance. I had already slept with Lae'zel and kissed Shadowhart because they just came on so quick, and I'm a bard so I figured "just go with the flow of action", but now I'm in act II ready to let Karlach touch people and she just seems to have no interest in me despite having probably the highest approval rating. I also tried to tell her I liked her at the Tiefling party in Act I but she pretty much rejected me. So much for best girl I think I'll have to settle for Lae'zel :(

Yeah you need to act quickly if you want this to work. For context:

The bug happened for me at the start of Act 2 when Dammon fixed the engine. During the next Long Rest, Mizora appeared and messed up Karlach's romance trigger.

I played the game for 4 hours, resting once inbetween and not understanding what was happening. Then I went back to the camp to do 2 consecutive Long Rests and it worked. If you want the romance to continue, the issue must be taken care of during Act 2.

Also, before anything happens, Karlach will have the chat icon above her head. So you need to talk to her and confirm if you want to bang

That was the missing ingredient! Mostly. I reloaded a save at the end of Act 2, after the boss fight of the act while celebrating with everyone. Went to camp, did all of Shadowhearts personal quest talks, but still no luck. I had already had a Cheat Engine installed to try to fix the glitch prior to this however. I followed u/matticusiv's guide on Reddit to clear out the romance history with everyone else, selected Karlach as my romance in the Cheat Engine and it finally worked!

Damn that's crazy you had to resort to a cheat engine. Glad you got it sorted out though!

Damn that's crazy you had to resort to a cheat engine. Glad you got it sorted out though! :spiffo:

I'm also bummed that I had to use it, but there's also the possibility I screwed something up earlier in the game and if I hadn't I'd be getting the progress I wanted post-patch without cheats. Thankfully the Cheat Engine is extremely easy to use, and I can just uninstall it right after fixing the romance issue.

Try sparing it on your next playthrough. These games are intended to be played multiple times.
