Lvl 6 seems to be the highest possible lvl for spells in BG3..... but
There's some cultist chanting a Power Word lvl 9.. Then there *are* spells that are outside of what the player can achieve by normal means?

You can get your party wiped via a Wish if you try.

yes, enemies dont play by player limits, they don't in most video games.

I "wish" you dead.
I still beat Savarok, who mind you lv17 and have lv10 cheating death mode with ease and used no spells on him at all. Pure melee

Which is really stupid, IMO, and one of my main complaints about games in general.

i mean, you have the means to infinitely collect resources and do things in whatever order you want to achieve power.

enemies are set encounters designed to provide a challenge for you to overcome.

if enemies continued to exist and grow while you do also i'd agree, but thats not how many games work really.

At the very least, I think their gear should work the same way before and after you pick it up.

There are level 9 Enchantments in this game, which you can obtain. A few other very strong things, too.

EDIT: Spoilers, obviously.

Sure in a few rare situations enemies get a 9th level spell, but so can the player, you can get a single use of Power Word: Kill yourself.
Lvl 6 is the highest for players due to Balancing reasons. (Outside of a few specific ones) For instance, if the Players had Wish, there would be a PLETHORA of things they could do or would then demand the devs to allow them to do. "Why can't I just wish to have all the stones?" or "I wish the Steel watch obeyed me" Etc.

i always say that the easy solution to that is simply allow players to pick from the exact examples the wish spells provide.

The multitude of excellent DnD/Pathfinder games going to lvl 20 and allowing players access to lvl 9 spells call complete, utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on "but mah balaaancee too haaard" disgrace of a pathetic argument.

Just say the campaign is low level and not every DnD game needs to go to epic scales instead of this dumbassery.

Which is why it’s a good thing that nobody listens to gamers
every RPG has characters or enemies that are considered, in the lore, to be above your power level - it's just that D&D tabletop simulates what that actually looks like so everything has a level. larian should have just divided the 12 level power scale by 20 to shut the autists up.

I don't mind as long as Larian eventually releases a toolkit for modders to craft the game at the playerbase's leisure
