How does fly spell work?
I casted the fly spell to get the gem in the faith trial, however the spell does not work. I used it on Tav herself, but she is still walking. How does this spell work?

You have a new ability on your hotbar that lets you fly to a location of your choice. Just fly from pillar to pillar.

Can also just jump it with a leap potion or the jump spell.

Fly spell has a 10 turn limit so make sure you go into the turn mode and not real time. Then look on your bar at bottom to the right there will be a Fly icon, you have to click it to activate Fly.

Just watched my niece do this and it worked fine.

Fly is realistically 'a very long jump' in this game.

Tav is a man.

Well put. You still have to have a "landing" target to move to while flying, just like when jumping. If you pick such target that is death, you'll die despite supposedly "flying". It's probably akin to misty step as well in this regards.

After playing Solasta where Fly was actually flying and could be used strategically in combat, it was a real head scratcher that Fly in BG3 is just a long jump.

Considering they did fly better in their previous game yeah, my head is still shaking. Literally. It looks like I'm being electrocuted.

Also, make sure your character is not Encumbered. After you cast the Fly spell, you have to actually activate it using the new icon on the far right of your skill bar.

Good Luck

Yes it doesn't seem right, but can you imagine the dev's having to worry about (aka code) players flying in 3D space in any part of the map like superman? Most of the map is background/cosmetic, not actual space to move through.

tbf, DnD doesnt really support polymorph like Divinity original sin does. Fly also worked exactly the same in D;OS2; Use polymorph: Wings, then it gave you an ability to use the fly action.

tbf poly also prevented you from taking surface damage, like it should in BG3.

I looked in the hotbar. There is nothing new there. I'm getting really sick and tired of having to search for things that should automatically work. If I have cast flight on someone, their movement should automatically fly. It is Flying for Dummies, but Larian seem not to be intelligent enough to implement something simply.
