[Dice Roll] Any difference between 16 and 17 in a Stat?
Hello,

I'm trying to understand Stats bonuses.
Let's say my character has 16 charisma; is there any bonus to having 17 charisma?

From what I understand, the dice rolls will give the exact same bonus of +3.

Am I missing something?
Thanks for your help :)

Not in the moment, but if you can find a source of +1 to that stat then suddenly that odd number matters.

In character creation, I usually end up with 2 or 3 off stats with the intension of increasing them with ASI or some other feat later.

There are a couple of feats that give +1 to a stat and you can get a +1 permanent boost from the Hag's Hair. So if you're using those the 17 is a bit better than the 16, otherwise they're the same.

Edit: The exception is strength, where a 17 has a better carry weight than a 16.

The bonus goes up by 1 for every two points after 10; so 12 stat is +1, 14 is +2, 16 is +3, 18 is +4, etc.

That is correct. The biggest difference is that a 17 needs only a half feat to be an 18, while a 16 will need a full ability increase.

It is possible to leave act 1 with 20 in a stat, but whether that's a good idea depends on your build.

Yeah always wondered the same thing since you don't actually see the increase with odd numbers.

On BG3 no. It might matter later if you want to increase that ability score.
On D&D feats can have restrictions like "requires 13 Str" but Larian didn't not put this in game.

It actually was important for Feats specially on older D&D editions, now not so much because 5E got simplified.
