Can a Jack of All trade Bard replaces a Rogue ?
For lockpicking/disarming traps
Want to use a Bardlock Wyll instead of Astarion but FOMO on locks and traps...

Yes, it only takes dexterity. A cow could replace the rogue in this game with good dexterity. If you did not take the skill then you get a plus any way in. The only down side is you can not add your bard boost to yourself on the rolls which could help someone else to the job better.

I mean yes because of his dex and if bard has sleight of hand proficiency

tbh you can live without either, disarming traps safely would be hard, but you can pretty much unlock most/all locks with spells & guidance.

Yes.

Almost anything with Dexterity can replace a rogue. My Dex based monk handled all locks and traps himself and I still have a ton of thieves' tools in late Act 3.

There's also the 2nd level wizard spell "Knock". It opens any lock regardless of DC. Traps are usually easy to disarm and worst case you simply spring it and heal up the damage. No biggie.

Ok guys, will do that
I've found 5ed/BG3 rogues quite subpar, "stealthy" gameplay don't really work and isnt efficient unless you go full "hidden machinegun" build, which is not fun to me
And they don't have anything else where they shine, everyone can use scrolls and magical items, fighters hit harder, etc

Do you want me or rather someone else to tell you that you might have missed something there? Stealth gaming is quite rewarding when done right. My Halfling Bard is a power to behold which gives me headaches because I do not want to like Bard, but the game makes it far TOO COMFORTABLE to like Bard with their superpowers.

Well, if you mean the Bard feature Jack of All Trades, technically yes, but you wouldn't get expertise because it's half of your base proficiency bonus and requires you not to be proficient.

To make up for this, I would suggest having a high DEX, Guidance readily on hand, and the Gloves of Power(?), I think they're called, that give a +1 to Sleight of Hand.

That can make it up for not having a Rogue, but having expertise is always nice.

There are gloves which give advantage on sleight of hand checks. I consider that one more powerful for traps and locks.

I can't do sh#t in stealth unless staying far out of sight and shooting 1 arrow/turn, and often LoS is blocked, distance is too far etc
Sure it also works on engaged enemies but my fighters don't need help most of the time

I play a Warlock and do the talking, traps and lockpicking. Works fine. You need Char, Dex anyway.

There's also the cat robe, I can't remember it's name, that gives advantage on sleight of hand. At least I remember it doing that.

But you do know, that stealth is not just about staying out of enemies' line of sight, yes?
A good stealther can just go pass that undetected.

Hell, I laughed so much when I went stealing stuff and the guard came and looked more than thrice directly at my character but could not see them due to the size. The guard even had a torch!

Yeah pickpocketing is fun at start, but soon there's nothing worth stealing you can just buy it...
