I can't knock out Minsc without killing him

So I tried to knock out Minsc to recruit him. I have Jaheira on the team, everyone is around him, within the sight, I use non-lethal attacks (tried axe, hammer, even fists), Minsc got knock out, loosing all his hp and dies. Jaheira gets mad and leaves the party. I really want to save him and speak reason to him, but no matter what I try, I can't do it. I even left the zone and came back later leaving just Minsc alive, but another knock out try, another death.. what to do?

So heal him....

and you have changed to "non lethal damage" in the options? Just change toy our fist as weapons and a blunt weapon isn't enough.

Is this the first time he's getting knocked out in this save? Because if you don't have Jaheira the first time he's knocked out you have a conversation with the Emperor, and the second time kills him.

Honestly I think they added non-lethal damage because it's a 5e mechanic, but the game never actually considers if you use it, and just treats them as dead in terms of quest updates. it's really disappointing

He was knocked out before during the fight but he stood up again. Do you think I should rewind and make this fight happen from the beginning?

I got him low on hp, changed to non lethal damage, and knocked him out. Worked for me. Jaheira got happy I didn't kill him, and we got to meet Boo -)

Yep, sounds like it might be badly coded.

I didn’t use fists to knock him out, just regular weapons.

be careful that no AOE from you or the enemy happens after he goes down. Like sitting in a pool of acid.

If the character you controlled when the cutscene to fight begun is far away from minsc when you first time down him with non-lethal, you will always lose him. So make sure that character is nearby Minsc when you down him first time.

Yep, to add to the chorus, I used a non-lethal attack and it knocked him out. Up to that point I was trying to hit him with an attack that got him to exactly zero hit points LOL
