Every playthrough I try something new and find new things , from new classes/ combos to changing some decisions in quests to optimizing my builds etc.
It’s the first game probably since WoW that made me stay up til 5-6 am
I'm assuming this is hyperbole, but wow.
Larian did the best they could do with all the difficulties that follows. Is it a perfect game ? Not a all ! Is it a good start for future endeavors ? Absolutely.
i wont say its perfect, not by any stretch, but my issues hardly compared to what im getting
I am not asking for much. Just completeness. It is clear that a lot of content was cut, making this game feel like it's center is missing. Take the horny companions. I would argue that it's because Larian ran out of time and were unable to provide more characterizations to the companions. There could have been less companions, but more fleshed out, and I would have been happy. I don't think that is too much or unreasonable to ask.
That kind of game is hard to make because you're battling with people like you (figure of speech).
You can't please everyone so you need a middle ground but not too middle either so it won't be stale and bland. This is the middle they choose and you seems 80% satisfied by it so it's a good score for Larian.
Totally forgot about the mindflayer plot by the time I got to act 2 lol...while say in DAO the darkspawn were always around the corner if not right in your face...
This game will be tragically forgotten in a few years due to its lackluster characters/story...
Main thing is there's no real discernible plot progression and flow, just gotcha, gotcha, gotcha...as opposed to say in Dragon Age Origins where right off the bat you know EXACTLY what you need to do so the player can perceive and engross themselves into the flow of the story (get the oaths fulfilled, confront Loghain, kill archdemon). LotR is similar (survive and get to mount Doom, destroy the ring). In BG3 it's like random, "go meet this guy, oops he can't help you, maybe go talk to her, ahh she neither, how about him, nope, oh a random mindflayer out of nowhere can save you, problems solved...), very elementary writing...
Calling Elder Braind - actually Nether Edler Brain even - being close to dominate a world of Faerun a minor local conflict is smth
The DAO fanboys always are the funniest ones though and don't understand the effect of nostalgia. DAO's story wasn't strong and it didn't have much surprising elements. You knew most of it from the start. I remember that game as well, cool game, for it's time especially, but that's it. I can separate my nostalgia from objective comparison with newer games like PoE, Pathfinder, DoS, BG.
I was using the romance as an example of the game feels lacking because it was rushed. The romance is by no means my only gripe in this area. And for my playthroughs, yes the romance was a big deal part of it. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kid died and not 5mins latter La'zel is trying to jump my bones over it with corny pickup lines. That is called a clash of tones in writing. Also for the bigot thing, I'm gay. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ what sexuality characters are, I just wan't them to be well written. And, in the case of RPGS, time to get know them and develop a connection
