Killing All Steel Watchers in City

Instead of doing the Ironhand Gnomes quest, can you choose to kill all the steel watchers in and around the city manually? Obviously its more effort, but I kind of feel like I need a challenge.

Does this change the Gortash/Gnomes quest in anyway or do they just respawn? I know I would need to also kill a lot of flaming first to kill the steel watchers, but that's ok for my Dark Urge since Counsellor Lorrick owes me one. ; )

There's no respawn in this game so you'll just have to massacre everyone around the steel watchers you'll attack and you're done. But story wise that way doesn't add anything and it's not challenging if your party is high lvl.
