Suspicious Sounds
This is quite the little side adventure.

For anybody who followed it through to the end, are there any repercussions from doing so? is it better to take one of the skillchecks to bail out ahead?

yeah, I'm thinking of bailing out at the second check as I type this. My extra-planar buddy is screaming at me to resist.
