OMG, on my second playthrough and I just realized also (SPOLIERS!)
Omelluum doesn't 'accidently' make your parastie stronger when he tries to 'help'....he TOTALLY does it on purpose!!!

Just ANOTHER SOULESS MINDFLAYER!!!!

Never, EVER, EVER trust a mindflayer folks. Like. Ever.

No such thing as a 'good guy' mind flayer...nope

You can summon him, in the final battle.
The same way you can summon certains NPC, that you have been helping during your entire game.
It's only for the final battle against the Nether Brain.
oh. huh. I need to go back and check that out. I did the ol' "I don't want to use a resource unless I really have to" deal and didn't even notice he was a summonable option

Yeah, except, at least for me. When I summoned him he went hostile. But. To be fair. So did every other frigging person I summoned including Nightsong. Other than the demo dwarves. The ones who shoot explosive arrows. They were the only ones when fighting nether brain that stayed on my team. And my faithful Ghouls.

Yes...my faithful ghouls...the only REAL friends an adventurer truly needs. :P

And...were...very helpful.

During the Iron throne rescue you can also rescue him there.

From what I understand, it's a Vampire and it's Spawn type of scenario for most Illithid. An Elder Brain creates tadpoles, and the mindflayers produced by them are psionically dominated by that elder brain essentially forever. So do you hold Asterian responsible for the ♥♥♥♥ Cazador made him do? Same question.

The only more or less confirmed statement we can take is that Illithid are soulless, as flatly stated by Withers (Kinda an authority on the subject, I think). This presumably means they lack morality altogether, but other implications are up in the air.

My understanding is that it is worse than that. A Vampire spawn still has a mind of their own and 'free will' untill their Vampire lord forces their will upon them.

A mindflayer is not even an individual..it is more like just one more neuron in link in a Giant brain. NO will, no mind exactly, just conduit operating the will of a higher power.

Well, in Act 3 you save him. And it just helps him trick you into thinking you are on same team. Remember Nether brain and the 'big three' are NOT on the same side. Omelluum would work for the brain.

As for the ring. What? That small little token? What is an 'advantage' going to help with when the final check needed to overcome the brain is 99,

As with all things mindflayer.....MANIPULATING YOU TO THEIR ULTIMATE END.....you loving and trusting them....to do WHAT THEY WANT.

I was asked to find him by his friend in act 3, but I could not find him - where was he?

Inside the Iron throne (the underwater prison) The trick to saving him and your party member is realizing once you free him he has an ability to teleport you both directly to the sub

NEVER. EVER. Trust a mind Flayer. EVEr.

On my next playthrough, I'm killing that dude on sight. And every other mindflayer I see. No questions asked!!!

Looks like something mindflayer would say if it wanted to gain our trust

Exactly. See how dangerour mindflayers are. *I* could be one. So. Lesson? Kill all mindflayers on sight. Of course......the problem? What happens when the mind flayers trick us into seeing real people who aren't mind flayers as looking like mindflayers?

Jesus these are REALLY OP bad guys......

Honestly, the more I think about it...the more I think the D&D world has not done this race justice or truly dived into just how significant their powers are. I mean. They are LITERALLY the SINGLE MOST DANGEROUS THING IN EXISTENCE inside the D&D universe by EXPONENTIAL degree. ♥♥♥♥ Dragons. ♥♥♥♥ anything.

When you really think about it.

Mind Flayers are the ultimate bad guy...and D&D has yet to come up with a real, credible, defense against them.

Like.....seriously...How were they beat, exactly? They don't even need to use violence despite that making for good cut-scenes. All they need to do is make you think all is well in your head. Like a VR program. Which.....OMG...MAYBE WE ARE LIVING IN RIGHT NOW :D

While.....our brains could be getting munched on...RIGHT NOW. THE HORROR.

God, I love D&D.
