Game is shutting down my pc, no blue screen (I'm aware others are having this issue)
Or at times makes it restart. I'm aware others are having this issue. I don't think it's my PSU, this is the only game causing the issue. It's a Seasonic FOCUS Plus 850 Gold, bought in November 2021.Case has been cleaned recently, and I have coretemp and MSI afterburner to monitor the temperatures. It does get a bit hot but I tend to close the game for a few minutes if my GPU gets up to 72 and let it cool down. I have the framerate capped, and several graphical settings turned down. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is my processor. Any ideas?

I was not having this problem until about 50 hours into the game. I did have a few instances of the game itself crashing, but only when I had my graphics settings way up, after I got them turned down I had no issues with crashes or temperature, until this suddenly started happening.

I love how many comments on this are going "duh it's overheating" as if I didn't expressly address that. It is not overheating, I do not LET it over heat.

I have the same problem. Installed the game today. And it crashes the same way you described or turning off GPU with No Signal message on monitor. I don't want to break my PC so I decided to stop trying to play before fix.

rtx 3070ti, i7 6700k, 64 gb ram, 850w psu, ssd

Bad settings.

You already know what the problem is, overheating. Fix it.
how dose it crash, dose the power just cut out and your computer resets? or dose it freeze for a bit with the picture sill on screen before the reset?

I had it cause a memory conflict in my GPU and bluescreen in act 3 but may have just been a driver issue hard to say.

random shutdowns like that is from cpu overheat

I monitored my CPU and GPU temps and they were 70 degrees max. However I solved my problem with turning off CPU and RAM XMP overclocking. No other games besides BG3 and also Armored Core VI involved the same problem.
It seems that it's time to refuse 5% overclocking for these new games =\ Okay. The risk to burn the PC doesn't justify the reward.

when the computer shuts down it's usually too much heat somewhere.

clean the filters, reseat cpu-cooler with new paste, the usual schtuff.

*can also be a psu that's starting to fail. basically if all the temps are monitored and good then it's most likely the psu

Not necessarily. I've had similar crashes and my PC is fully custom water loop but this was before the two patches. This is the only game that could cause a full PC shutdown but its only with DX11 while vulkan just crashed the game. But this mostly occurs in multiplayer while my single player run hasnt had such issues. After 2 patches, now my friend, who I co-op with, is crashing the most in act 3 and I haven't crashed in a few days. Out strat was save often, use vulkan, and use --no-launcher option.

Which area are you in because I crashed the most in the forge.

And no, my PC is not overclocked because you cannot overclock or curve optimize the 5800x3D by conventional means and my 6950xt is not overclocked because it resets all settings when it fails. I have had this build for over a year and put in 1000s of hours with it and this is the only game that can cause a full PC shutdown with dx11.

You are not alone, there are many threads on the larian forums and in the technical help section, https://steamcommunity.com/app/1086940/discussions/3/3808408747681085307/, with the exact issue.

A lot of the responses in this thread are on par with "run sfc /scannow and reinstall windows" :steamfacepalm:
