Do you actually bother to throw weapons and potions ? Use special arrows ?
I have lobbed an explosive bottle here and there in desperation, especially early in game when spells were still limited. Hell i even lobbed explosive barrels in the Grove fight.

But in the ultimate fight leading up to the brain i summoned flaming fist reinforcements that were quite brutal...kicked casters off walls and i saw them throwing 3 spears ( i guess javelins ) in succession. I experimented with that but discovered you actually seem to spend them, not getting them back.

Why should you use that ( and special missiles/arrows ) when almost all characters have scores of spells and cantrips to lauch, and melee classes can use a variaety of bows with unlimited arrows ?

There is a Trident you can get from the Jin, at the clown festival,
that is "Return to Sender."

Throwing people > throwing weapons.

Believe it or not, thrown weapons are insanely strong. You can get a Returning Pike in act 1 and it's literally making every encounter a joke even on Tactician. If you are on high ground, the target may also receive bludgeoning damage from the weight of the thrown items. And as kcman5 said before, the trident from the djinn lottery becomes OP because of the AOE effect.

All the time! Throw water to save someone from burning or acid. Throw a potion to revive someone, one of my party members has a trident that automatically returns and does AOE damage when it's thrown. Throw has SO many uses! You can even throw smaller enemies at other enemies!

My Thief/Gloomstalker build used the special arrows all the time. They took an already powerful build to the next level.

And throwing potions is incredibly useful too. Had many a fight where my party was saved from being downed by throwing a potion.

You can throw elixirs at your feet and buff your entire party with one potion. You can do the same with things like fly potions. There's also a trick you can do with alchemist fire, by spacing them out in turn-based mode where you place an acid file next to an alchemist fire and just shoot it when every you want.
yeah AOE from potions is great. Just make sure if you throw a healing potion at a downed party member you throw it NEXT to them...or the impact can actually kill them...LOL!

Sometimes, yes. I intend to make a character specializing in throwing stuff around just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles.

I have been actively using the returning spear (and sometimes other thrown weapons) ALOT on my barbarian and hit the hardest of the party in most cases (druid can beat him when wildshaped sometimes depending on the situation) And my bard actively throws healing potions to heal people in combat when they are not too damaged, to save on spell slots and when we have extra potions, though I also throw potions out of combat as a healing potion can hit multiple people at once if they are close enough together, saving even more potions.

Arrow of Many on a paralyzed target in melee range = auto-crit on multiple targets. Now add haste and aciton surge :D pewpew Smokebomb arrows are also fun

Usually arrows are a good way setup debuffs like reverberation and light orbs (blindness).

Also tavern brawler with 27 str with uninhibited kushigo gloves + ring... pewpew!

tavern brawler + kushigo gloves + ring + returning weapon = stupidity forever

I mostly use special arrows, scrolls or whatever to save resources,

But that's kind of a nonsense reason since you can pretty much long rest at will.

I might actually start selling some of the food I keep picking up, now that I think about it...

Yeeting stuff, especially returning weapons(or playing eld. knight) is pretty strong.
Especially if you get the equipment for it.
MadDjinn Aug 31, 2023 @ 8:37am
thrown potions affect everyone in the splash zone. So feel free to hug and shower together with the healing potions. More economical that way.

Special arrows are exactly that. Not sure how you'd try to compare basic arrows to special ones, since it's obvious why they are always situationally better.

Grenades are sometimes better than spells or cantrips. The explosives are pretty useful most of the game. And you'd be surprised how many late game enemies are susceptible to a greasy or icy floor.

If you need to spend an action pulling a new weapon out of the pack, then it's not as useful as any of those.

As an eldritch knight, I bound the Shattered Flail, then throw the flail at enemies. Since it returns, you get healed and can safely throw use it without much worry of going mad from the curse.
