Origin Characters story tier list

S tier
Dark Urge - everything points to him being the main character. Lots of content, biggest connection with main quest, can be anybody like tav and still fit to story. It's not just a S tier, it's S+ tier.

Shadowheart - very good narrative from beginning to end. She have important artifact, big impact for act 2, interesting plot twist and final quest in act 3.

Lae'zel - not that good narrative like Shadowheart but still S tier. We have whole location connected with her. Her story bring us to one of the coolest quest in game and her plot twist can be important in ending.

A tier
Wyll - another character with big connection with main story because of who is he. In all acts we have some quest connected with him. He can have big impact in story but not that big like S tier characters.

B tier
Astarion - he dont have good narrative until act 3, mostly few dialogues and thats all. But his mission in act 3 is extensive. We get to an interesting place, the theme of vampirism is something different than what we experience in the game, which is cool.

Gale - Guy who can be truly hero in ending, just the man who born to do some thing what he must do. But before that his narrative almost not exists, few dialogues even with act 3. He dont bring us to his own cool place where we have boss fight. Everywhere we go with him because of his advice we also can go without him and not feel we lose something.

F tier
Karlach - I like her. She is rly cool but her story was cutted and you can feel it. Her quest end in begginign of act 2, after that she have something but nothing special. At this stage not deserve to be called "origin" like the others.

I'd have to agree TDU is an S tier character for all the points you mentioned. The rest just feel underwhelming in comparison. Tav does an okay job fitting into the story too which is nice. Karlach is definitely the biggest let down though.

I feel TDU is the only S tier, the rest are Bs or less.

My only issue with Lae'zel is that her character development is essentially finished by the end of Act 1/start of Act 2 (depending on how you define the Mountain Pass).

Gale feels like a bit of a let down since he isn't allowed to be important to the plot decision at the end, he essentially can just sacrifice himself to opt out of the final boss fight. Its also a bit annoying he goes from "I know I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, I've learned my lesson" in Act 1, to start being lured by the promise of shadow magic and power again in Act 2 and 3.
