Any consequences?
The first time you use the tadpole, there is a prompt "something stirrs inside you, it has taken somthing you will never get back"
Does this have any consequences? or is it just a prompt.

There aren't any consequences until you're offered a bigger choice a bit later in the game. It's pretty good at making it clear it's a new decision

It eats your brain and grows bigger in time.

I think it's just a prompt. I also was careful to use them so finished the game 1st time without using Illithid powers unless there was no choice not to and not using even a single tadpole in a bottle ( I didn't even see tadpole power ups menu ) and nothing really bad or really good happened because of that. Same if you use them all. You'll discover later why, no spoilers.

It's actually hilarious how there's ZERO consequences to using the powers, adding tadpoles, zero consequences, you are quite literally just handicapping yourself by not using all of it. There is no downside whatsoever.

Does not matter at all. There is no story reason for using them or not using them, all the endings are the same regardless.
Not much until special tadpole.

I was actually hesitant to use it but once i've read that there's no actual difference you use them or not ( besides special one ) i just dumped them all and got some extra edge on Tactician.

To be honest, it's a big let down that they didn't do anything with it. I mean if you didn't take them, the game doesn't really reflect those decisions.

It does seem like they had some sort of system in play but scraped it. With all the hints that something is missing or feeling sated etc.

This, I actually saved before using them cause I was cautious about the consequences, turns out there's literally none, just dump that brain full of maggots. Great design.

Imagine such power Joneleth, with no consequences. How that would have changed you,

the consequence is "limited quantity" :P can't give everyone a super powered Cull the weak :(

There's dialog for not using those powers at least.

My first run and Im going for something of an inquisitor/paladin thing who 100% refuses to do anything with those tadpoles. The only thing Iv noticed is the game being much harder than what Iv seen in videos and like 2-3 talks about my so called guardian telling me that I "need" to depend on that worm.

Kind of a let down so far. But Im not all that far anyway with being I think near the end of Act 1. That goblin camp was a right pain if being honest without being able to cheese speech checks and getting into one fight after another who my team was CERTAINLY not ready for! A lot of save scumming so far to undo TPKs.
But that's the rules. I wanted to play a stubborn fool, so I get to deal with things the hard way.

ok there is one consquence, if you use enough illithoua power, you become true soul, once you become true soul items that require absolue brand will give their full bonus without the brand
Zoid13 Aug 30, 2023 @ 10:31pm
you'd think going by the UI for the Tabhole skills of the worms burrowing into your brain and corrupting chunks of it that they aren't good :P

but hey you already have 1 whats another 20? lol

True. This is one of the very few real gripes i have with this game.

Some kind of 'extra bad' ending would be appropriate for abusing tadpoles/tadpoles powers.
