Where does the owlbear cub go?
Anyone know where the owlbear cub goes if you encounter him AFTER wiping out the goblins at the goblin camp?

After defeating his momma, I left him in the owlbear cave to enjoy a nice meal. I went back after a long rest, and the cub was not present at the cave. He is also not at the goblin camp. Is he gone from the game for good, or is there somewhere else I can find him?

I'm obviously okay with some light spoilers related to this.

I wonder if you have to interact with him in the goblin camp after setting him free one way or another.

Sadly im not sure if he apears anywhere after that if you did not.

No you cant as far as I know. Owlbear is a pain to get because the order is kind of specific. You need to kill the mother first before going to goblin camp.
If you go to goblin camp first, it will just be normal chicken even after I kill the mother bear, the cub disappear, the chicken still not replaced with owlbear.

So if you kill all the goblin first, Im very sure he will just disappear.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll know what to do in my 3rd playthrough, whenever that happens. I killed both mom and cub in my first.

You have to do the owlbear cave first and then go to the goblin camp. You have to do the chicken chase event trigger so you can speak with the cub and give it your scent to follow it to your camp like with the dog Scratch. If you did the camp first and then the cave, the cub is just gone now.

Just don't kill him. Enter the cave. Either speak with owlbear mom and leave or kill her, but not a cub.

He will later find his way into your camp in act 2 or 3, I think latter one.

At least in my run I cleared all Act 1, then remembered there was a cave, came back just to talk to owlbears and left without killing any of them. Cub came into my camp in the beginning of act 3.

Why would the cub want to be with you after you killed it's mother? Friggin heartless owlbear killer.

Go in the cave approach the mother and pass an animal handling check and leave. Go to the goblin camp and the cub is there. Interact with the owlbear and get the owlbear to sniff your scent and basically get the goblin who is running the race to release the owlbear to you.

Interesting. I thought you had to give him your scent. I did not have an option to do that in the owlbear cave. The cub was too engrossed in his "dinner" to pay attention to me.

You need to save him from goblin camp in my attempt to get him. Only then i have the option to give my scent. The event only trigger when you are long resting. There is only 1 event per long rest able to activate so if you have tons of event queueing you just need to sleep multiple times in a row. In my case it is around 5 or 6 till i finally able to get him to appear. I dont rest very often normally.

Another thing is tell the two True soul servants who is with Edmund who tells you that you are true soul to not worry about the owlbear. Or you can easily tell them that you are the fugitives they are looking for. Kill them and they won't go after the owlbear.

Hope you get the cub, it’s so cute

I saw ambient comments in camp with comments about "an owlbear" but I could not find it upon exploration.

Got him in last playthrough by killing mom first, then going to goblin camp and playing the goblin game such that he runs to the end goal, talk to him at the goal and invite to camp (he'll say he can't leave with goblins around), slaughter the goblins, he'll then meet you in camp.

It's pretty adorable as he'll make friends with the dog, lol

If you do this the owlbear will be at your camp before you finish act 1.

You don't need to kill the mother. Personally the mother is just protecting her cub. So that is why you found Edmund dying, you found part of his staff.

I went in the cave and approached the mother. Which will give you a few options. I passed an animal check and basically it shows that she was just trying to protect her cub. Leave the cave. Don't approach the cub or this will lead you fight the mother.

Head to the goblin camp and the cub is there. Basically interact with the cub and get the owlbear to sniff you. You can persuade the goblin to give you the cub or you can kill all the goblins for it to safely go to your camp.

Also once you have the owlbear in your camp, you can go back to the owlbear cave to retrieve the other piece of the staff. You find that some goblins end up killing the mother instead and that is why the cub was in the camp.
You leave it be - he despawn; you give it mercy - he dies; you invite him to camp with speak to animal and pass check he shows up in camp eventually

That, may be, it was quite long time ago so don't remember all details. But act 1 was fully cleared and only then I remembered there is an owlbear cave that I forgot to even enter. So I entered it fast to check before going into act 2. May be I took a long rest after that or may be did not, but right after that or long rest proceeded to act 2.
