Why didn’t Helm save the duke? Ketheric Thorm was right.
Why worship the “good” gods if they don’t do anything at the time of your greatest need?

The duke is like his most important follower and is about to be corrupted by evil so he called Helm out, and then there was nothing…

Ketheric thorm was right, for all the things that people denounce the “evil” gods for, at least they do something, and “give back” instead of “take take take”.

The “evil” god actually did what no one else could do for Ketheric, and then bothered enough to “save” him when he needed saving. (I know, to think that a god will save someone? That’s unheard of!)

Probably when the times are good, Helm be like, you know the duke? This dude follows me, yeah.

But when he actually needs him, Helm be like, I don’t know this dude.

This game should allows us to worship the evil gods instead.

Also every class should be able to worship a god (or no god), just because you are a fighter, ranger, druid, bard, etc. doesn’t mean you can’t worship a god.

Also there should be a option to worship the Absolute, Vlaakith, Silvanus and other deities like Zariel, etc.

Its also worth remembering that he started out as a bog standard mind flayer who was hooked up to an elder brain for awhile before his pal saved him. No special tad poles, no ancient magic, nothing like that. So if being enslaved to an elder brain is what strips you of emotions/personality and leaves you with nothing but the original host bodies memories then it was already too late by the time they were 'saved'.

I thought he originally transformed while lost at sea and didn't become dominated by an elderbrain until after he had already transformed.

Piecing together the half truths the Emperor tells you;

He undertook his second doomed mission to the other continent, which assuming they haven't retconned the shipwreck discovered in an earlier game, ran afoul from an outbreak of the werepuppers on the long return back. Somehow he was rescued from that fate, I'm presuming by his bronze dragon friend, but he couldn't face returning to his home city ashamed of a failed expedition, so instead he followed rumours of treasure underneath where Moonrise Towers would one day stand, and was instead captured by the Mind Flayers there and infected. Shortly after (I'm guessing 1-2 days, considering after a week he would be a Mind Flayer) he was rescued, again, by Ansur, who spent the next few days struggling to find a cure for him (I guess Auntie Ethel wasn't around 500-1,000 years ago, since she could for sure cure a standard tadpole infection). As more and more of his brain was consumed by the tadpole, the more and more he started to become the Mind Flayer but his personality was strong enough to remain intact and imprint itself on the nascent monster. Eventually Ansur tries to offer his friend a final mercy to spare his soul, so somehow a mind flayer that hasn't even yet fully grown and got ♥♥♥♥♥ slapped by some level 8 githyanki honor guards took down a level 17 bronze dragon and killed him.

What he does for the next few centuries/millenia, yet alone HOW he manages to stay alive when Mind Flayers only live for ~120 to 160 years, is a complete mystery, until Gortash barges in and reintroduces himself with the Elder Brain that Ketheric built a tower above. For some reason.

I think Ao forbid the gods from meddling anymore past the 2nd Sundering (which happens during the BG3 timeline).

Only Quasi deities like Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul are an exception to that rule.

Bane in particular was a greater deity in 4E and likely in the top 3 of most powerful evil deities in Faerun but seemingly loved meddling so much that he forsake most of his power just so he can continue with Faerun affecting schemes.

And Helm is easily among Ao's most loyal followers sooo...
