Which spells are ritual?
When you select spells on level-up there is no indicator suggesting which ones can be cast as rituals. I suspect I've skipped some really good spells as a result of this. Is there any way of knowing without testing every spell, or memorizing the whole 5E player manual?

If you're a wizard (which you are if you care about ritual spells), you can just learn them from scrolls.
Your wizard level up selection basically only matters when it comes to saving money.

this is a QoL improvement I'd like to see!

I discovered that longstrider was a ritual spell only on my like 4th different character. That's really nice to have. Longstrider being ritual might genuinely make it the strongest spell in the entire game. Basically just a free 33% extra movement speed at no cost. I think Jump might also be a ritual spell? Not sure.

You do bring up a pretty big problem with the game though. The existence of ritual spells at all is not apparent. Spells are only marked as ritual spells if you already know them and try to cast them. And the game doesn't tell you what the ritual tag means even if you do notice that it's there and can cast the spell.

Ritual spells can be cast out of combat without using spell slots. That's the reason they matter. Druids and Rangers both utilize ritual spells to tremendous effect because of it.

I could be wrong, but I definitely remember on level ups specifically selecting spells that were ritual... Or maybe I just recognized that they didn't use a spell slot and knew they were ritual.

Are you sure there's no indication? I'm genuinely asking

There is one tiny cost - you have to keep Longstrider equipped or those you've cast it o will lose the effect.

Every class that gets spells has more spells equipped than they want to cast anyway. Not really a cost per se. Could get messy once you unlock level 4+ spell slots I guess. The ranger I made had the really interesting situation of literally not being able to use their spell slots due to every spell they knew being ritual and only useful out of combat.

Seems I've discovered them all by now then, except for silence! I had no idea that one was a ritual. Maybe worth reconsidering its use.
