Act 2 Dead tieflings on a road - why?
If you go south from the tavern you may see a lot of dead bodies. One of them is a cultist, but the others are tieflings we met before in Act 1. Like Icaron etc. Why they are dead does anyone know??? Is there any chance to save their lives?

Im not sure but it could be Zevlor who was supposed to protect his people but abandoned them because of the absolute.

If you progress further, you will hear that the tieflings have been ambushed and Zevlor embarrassed himself during that ambush. But rejoice... the important ones you can all save: Rolan, his siblings, Alfira's lover.

Talk to the tieflings in the last light inn. One of them, if not a few of them, will tell you what happened and you even pick up a quest from doing so.

-Speak with the dead
-Dialogues

These are you options to discover what happened
And you can't save everyone

Tieflings get killed on the road to Baldur's gate by the cultists. To avoid that, you must either kill all 3 leaders (Gut, Ragzlin and Minthara) or defeat Minthara and her horde during the assault on the grove. If you haven't done one of those and progressed past the first zone, the tieflings are done.

Only partially true, because they still get ambushed (Zevlor & Rolan questlines). There are survivors, though. It will get clear, if you talk to the surviving tieflings in Last Light Inn.
If you convinced Rolan to stay during act 1, he will be drunk and heartbroken in the Inn and set out to rescue his siblings. You will have to save him in the shadows. If you let him fall to the shadows, he is gone for good. You can rescue his siblings and Alfira's lover (I forgot her name) from Moonrise Towers. Zevlor himself you can rescue in the Illithid colony under Moonrise Towers.
The shadowcursed lands are dangerous. It was obvious that not everyone will survive. In the end, only some handful will make it to Baldur's Gate, if you manage to rescue them all. And that's best case scenario. And there will be more dying right before Baldur's Gate itself, due to the Bhaal cultists and general Xenophobia. You will find murdered Tiefling refugees all over the place.

I wasn't associating this dead group of Tieflings with Zevlor's group, although that makes perfect sense. They ALL got ambushed, some died, and the rest got scattered to the winds. It's kinda a crappy feeling having spent time talking with every Tiefling in the grove and finding large numbers of them just dead, and thinking that there is something you could have done to prevent it. And maybe there is just no way around this one. Certainly not one anyone has offered.
