Jaheira?
I don't understand why they created such an inherently unlikable character and present her as if she's not just an overtly evil ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that any morally upstanding character would kill at their earliest convenience... and then have Karlach fangirl over her as if Karlach didn't actively want to kill the exact kind of horrible evil creature she is. Am I missing something? The very first interaction you have with her is her seeing a group of innocent passersby and immediately threatening their lives while cutting off their escape, and upon being proven to be a piece of ♥♥♥♥ publicly when that information is revealed her next move is to try and have a ♥♥♥♥ measuring contest to save face? Like... the only difference between her and Kagha is that Kagha at least had reasonable and morally good motivations for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ things she did. Jaheira's just evil for the sake of stroking her own ego, and for some reason the game doesn't seem to treat it that way.

Why is this piece of garbage treated so strangely by the game's narrative?

See, experiences can be rather different.

For me she just caught me and questioned me a little bit and then Mol showed up pretty quickly and vouched for me.

Mol may had an "accident" in my game. I admit nothing.

I believe you are cutting her too much slack, cause you know who she is and that a confrontation is not inevitable. My character on the other hand has never met her before and it turns out attacking her was the correct decision. Literally the only reason a fight can be avoided, is because at the very last second and actual agent of Thorm's jumps in. I tried multiple dialogs and that was the only peaceful resolution. She was going to kill me. Oh, I am sorry, did she have her reasons? I didn't know. Can I defend myself, or should I try to put myself in her shoes a bit more and hope for a deus ex machina?

That's what I got. She entangled me, said that helping the other harpers could be a ruse and immediately checked if I had a tadpole, Seems pretty reasonable given the circumstances.

Edit: This is what I got https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7uPFGVuaMY

The point is that she didn't know who you were, regardless of what others in the camp had done. Under what context was she threatening you? Just for the sake of it?

But it is that Jaheira's actions make all the sense in the world. You are an unknown who responds to the mindflayer parasites while they are openly fighting against the Absolute and the mindflayer. She is a druid, leader of the harpers, who has been fighting for more than 200 years against people who have lusted for power, lied, manipulated and murdered. What do you want her to do, throw you a cake party or distrust you and interrogate you as soon as you arrive at her camp? If you don't act like an ♥♥♥♥♥, she gives you the vote of confidence pretty quickly (ohhh, she makes me drink wine with a potion to tell the truth). Well, I don't know, it's logical that she wants to know if you're lying to her. And she is right, considering that 10 minutes later a man they trusted betrays them.

Jaheira is very well written, not only because she really fits the personality of Jaheira from the original Baldur's Gate, but because she really comes across as a seasoned, wise and pragmatic woman throughout the game.

That said, I don't understand people who say it's just a fanservice claim. Jaheira is one of the characters with the most content and dialogue in act 3. And her personality completely matches the original Jaheira.

Jaheira is an icon in Baldurs gate, natures servant.

She is the best written character in BG2 and probably my favourite. In BG3 I think she ♥♥♥♥ ballz and she is the worst companion, at least from those I experienced, and I have regretted reloading when I found out she was a companion.

Well honestly, either we have played different games, or we have definitely taken very different routes, because in my campaign with Dark Urge in the process of redemption, Jaheira is a great character.

I wouldn't call it a redemption arc in my case, but I played a durge refusing to submit to the urges or use any parasites powers. Having said that, I am a CN drow leaning towards evil, so there is that. I'm still in the first part of Act 3 waiting for the patch and I do not like anything I've seen so far. I don't even like her voice acting that I've seen people praising. She does sound like the old Jaheira, but her voice acting was horrible back then. It's much better now, but still just passable imo.

I really liked taking her in act 3, she has a lot of dialogue and content, as well as a complete mission.

As for voice acting, personally, I like it.

Overall, the only companion I find terribly mediocre and incongruous is Halsin. The rest, regardless of their personalities, seem to me to be all well written. Minthara is half-implemented and full of bugs, but she has potential.

PS: You are doing the right thing by waiting for the patch, Act 2 is a tailspin in terms of content. Although the entire final arc of Dark Urge seems like a blast to me, so enjoy it.

I have absolutely no idea what you're on about. My introduction to Jaheira was at the Last Light inn where she tries to make you drink the truth drink, and I never once got the vibe that she was 'evil'

I was going to completely ignore the Grove fight, but I read that doing so would potentially break Minthara's lines, thus I broke character and destroyed the grove. So Halsin, Wyll and Karlach were out. I like what I've seen from Minthara up to where I am and I find her voice acting to be in the top three.

Absolutely agree. I think all the companions are excellent except for Halsin. I never even spoke to him once he joined the camp so I was confused about why he was sad at the end of act 2 lmao

Did she not approach you when you cross the bridge and first entered?

Of course, interrogating a stranger and potential threat to protect other people doesn't seem like the definition of evil.

Surly? Yes, it always was. But evil...?
