Nere fight impossible to win?
I've done everything else in Act 1, but the Nere fight seems totally unwinnable. There are WAY too many enemies, and even setting up a ton of bombs I still can't win. They get so many turns, and one of my party ALWAYS gets pushed into lava. I'll be like 20 mins into the fight, then someone gets pushed in. I do not understand how to do this fight. I have tried so many set ups and tactics, and have been getting nowhere for 2 days straight. Ideally I'd like to kill Nere for his items, but he has like 12 dudes backing him up, AND stupid mindcontrol that lasts like 5 turns.

How tf???

Impossible? No. Bloody difficult? Very much so. The lava thing is the nastiest bit. Make sure the party is far away from it at all times and shove Nere into it (there are spells and potions that will give you enough time to loot him later).

I beat the nere Fight by Murdering all of the lackey's outside of the rocks FIRST (Minus the Gnomes of course). Using the shockwave to push 2 into the Lava first. Dont free nere before clearing out the Lackey's first. That's just a silly thing to do. Once he's on his own. You can keep him in dialogue with one character, then Bitchslap him with another to initiate combat.

I had the same issue, what I did? I used Karla, Lae and Astarion, I set Astarion behind the range close to the boulders, Karla and Lae where the most npc where and used my PC to use the push spell on the 2 npc with highest HP.

Also I fought the gnomes first without Nere, and then Nere. Remember to use all strategies possible. It took me like 2 hrs? trial and error
get the help from the dwarves it wont be so one sided. Burn nere down hes probably the most dangerous enemy. if your level 5 this fight shouldn't be an issue.

Depends on how you see the game and play it. When you approach BG3 as you would BG2 or the Pathfinder games, as some regular D&D tabletop fight, than yes, it is pretty much impossible. When you utilize a) all the possibilities Larian gives you (many many tricks that are borderline exploits and cheating) and b) metagaming, it is quite easy.

I did it at level 5 on normal difficulty. But I passed a skill check from a dialog earlier and got help from a few duergar who rebelled against Nere

If you don't mind "cheating" by exploiting the AI there is an easy solution. You can Misty Step to the metal railway at the top of the room and use a Rogue to shoot and Cunning Action: Hide at the end of the turn. No matter where the enemies path to there is always a part of the railway that they can't get line of sight to so they just stand around doing nothing if they've killed the rest of your party. Can easily shoot them one by one and never get hit as long as you hide before ending your turn.

If you plan to kill Nere, I suggest clearing the area from potential hostiles before setting him free. Given proper choices he can also side with you for a time being and help you with duergars. Also make sure not to accidentally damage slaves, some of them is actually important for a questline Barcus Wroot, guy you've (likely?) saved at windmill

Can you even summon them from somewhere this deep?

Kill all the Duergar in the place before opening the way to Nere, then its just him.

There is a wall with ladder at the right for your ranged units, you can position your melee units under that wall. I love to init this battle with shoving single archer that stands there on top. Then just kill them all, they all are pretty weak on Tactician and you already have so many tools for you avaiable to CC or just nuke.

Go up the ladder nearby, start the fight there, and run further away to force most enemies to come to you.

Or just let Nere die in the cave by resting.

don't start anywhere where you can be pushed into lava. the fight starts after you free nere, after shooting an explosive. You can set up so no one is close to getting pushed into lava. I shoot the rocks open from the balcony to the right of the door. Then it becomes a battle over the ladder. Can get pushed off from up there too, just have to position yourself at the end of each turn to avoid it.

I...probably wouldn't do that if you want to keep the Deep Gnomes alive. Summoning the Ogres will cause them to be hostile as well. If you don't care about the gnomes, you can just wait for Nere to die.

You can ask the rebel (Brithvar?) to help you. If you have already refuse him without knowing , i would simply try that ->
