Hold Person spell needs to be taken out of the game.
This is the most broken ability i have ever seen in a game ever in my life. I literally cannot think of a more broken ability in a video game. Please just take it out. Its cheap, its skilless, and beyond broken.

You can upcast it for up to 5 targets

The Freedom of Movement spell (or Elixir of Guileful Movement) should completely nullify this particular threat if you haven't been able to handle it in other ways.

Honestly the cc spells can be crazy.

My first time fighting the harpie things in the druid place to save the little kid....holy hell.

Siren song hits 3 of my people. sometimes its just 2. My barbarian and paladin usually could resist it (go figure), but even straight up melee attacks wouldnt break the concentration even on crit rolls to save my other party members. I think even once concentration was held even though i legit threw the harpy into another one.

I was woefully underprepared.

I will say now though, the game does give you a lot of room to work with and there arent too many really bad fights ive had. Gotta use what you are given.

Either you are very very very very bad at this game or the initiative rolls bent you over.

I literally said that they all had my characters on hold before i can attack. This may be hard for you to understand i guess, but there is no skill involved in that. There is no "you are bad" that is the game deciding they go first, and they get to use those spells.

Thanks for confirming you have zero idea how any of the game mechanics work.

Might want to look into that before offering opinions on what is or is not broken

If it were a Harpy's Luring Song ability, then concentration isn't even an issue -- it's not a spell, but an ability they need to keep using to maintain (with a bonus action). Silence would work. More dangerously, if you had a way of doing acceptably low damage to an affected party member, that'd grant an additional save to shake them out of it.

Imagine asking for spells to be removed instead of asking for more spells.

It can be upcasted to effect more than one target though.

Nah thats OP asf, especially if they arent close enough for me to use, or i have other enemies around me. Spell made by babies.
If only there were ways to boost your saving throw...ohwait there are!
Doombringer Aug 29, 2023 @ 12:51am
In 1st/2nd edition D&D Hold Person was a lvl2 spell that affected up to 3 targets (save penalty if you didn't use max targets) and only allowed 1 save.
And there was no concentration.
And being hit when paralyzed was instant death.

3e, 3.5e, and 5e version of Hold Person are tuned way down from how silly it used to be.

In what was is it "broken"?

There are several ways to break it and casting often fails due to the saving throw.
