Paladins arent religious anymore in the same way as clerics, they use oaths now
Warlocks still pick their patron, its their subclass
For Warlock you have three patrons that work as your subclass. Great Old One, The Fiend or The Archfey.
Paladins pick their oath rather than deity.
Sub-classes mentioning a non-specific entity isn't the same as picking your patron, though.
And in general that patrons were more fleshed out. Would probably make worth playing a faelock despite how much they were gutted, just for fun fae shenanigans.
