Warlocks as offensive spellcasters

Hey, all you warlocks out there. Does only having 2 spells per combat bother you? Is 2 spells per combat enough?

I mean, they're GOOD spells. if you take fireball it's going to be a 5th level fireball, if you take hold person it's going to target 4 people. Your spells are automatically upcast to the highest level you can cast.

I mean, Armor of Agathys itself gives you 25 temporary hp, and probably deals about 50 damage on its own (It deals 25 damage to an attacker until those temp HP are gone, so probably 2 hits, 3 if they're weak)

That's not bad!

But only 2? 3 at level... 11?

Not enough? Eldrich blast is pretty good, and Extra attack with blade pact is still pretty good too though...

I made aspargus a thief and he's just been fantastic.

2 bonus actions a turn give him extreme mobility. During the fight at the last light in, by turn 2 he was on the roof lobbing alchemist fire at the horde while everyone else was still doing a fighting retreat on the ground floor.

you get access to haste with the pact of the tome, all the other pacts are pretty lame, the pets are extremely weak and due they not having the power to grab things as they do in the tabletop they are useless. you can push enemies with repelling blast and pull enemies with the thorn whip, if someone else cast spikes your damage is greatly enhanced.

if you want to cast spells and having eldritch blast doing more damage, get 2 lvls on warlock and 10 lvls on sorcerer or bard. EB escales by itself.

hell the best option is just getting 2 lvls of warlock fiend, 1 lvl of ranger, get heavy armor with the knight ranger and the rest of warlock pact of the tome until you get haste, then you are free to put your lvls elsewhere, for example barbarian just to have more hp, or keep leveling up ranger for a companion that will do more than your imp will ever do, because your EB doesnt need you to be a warlock as long you have agonizing blast and repelling blast, as invocations.

[Shells]

Warlock is a potent battlefield controler thanks to EB. Who can dispose of up to 3 archers in certain environments? Hold up to 4 enemies or Fireball them with very high (5th level spell) DC. Or just push away 3 enemies from your more squishy toon(s). A well rounded class, not overpowered but good enough. I like them and take Wyll with me as often as possible.

That's I how I used him also. But I've been dual wielding him, since you can attack with the extra bonus action in Bg3.

hex + scorching ray, as long as you dont lose concentration you can 2 2 scorching ray per short rest

I mean, it is technically just an archer that shoots lasers instead of arrows if you really think about it

Haste is broken as is. I sincerely hope and do believe the developers will nerf it back to the way its supposed to be. If not there is already a mod.

Yup, which is why I love them.

i never found it to be an issue, it's a class where you are never gonna be out of options, you get a lot of cantrips to make up for your lack off spellslots and a very powerful ranged 'basic attack' in the form of eldritch blast which can become super powerful. And if you are ever caught in melee the warlock can actually pack a punch unlike other spellcasters. not to mention with the pact of the blade they get profeciency with all weapons.

Another cool thing about Warlocks is the short rest spell recoverry. A party of fighter, Barbarian, Warlock and Druid or thief can go a very long time with out spamming long rest.

Everyone knows Warlocks dont really NEED spell slots. The class comes online with only cantrips.

It does bother me and becomes repetitive I won't lie...but fully upgraded Eldritch Blast is insane.
