This Portrait Glitch is Killing Me

I'm at the end of act 2, and I've spent most of the game so far playing with a blank teal background as my character portrait. I can go to Withers and pay him 100 gold to try and get it to reset back to showing her face, but that works only very rarely and I know it will glitch back again on next lvl up. Has a reliable work around been found? I've had this happen with every character I've made.

I haven't seen a fix. In my fiances game, Karlach's portrait is just a black silhouette, like she's a locked character in a early 00's fighting game.

resetting the graphics settings and respeccing with withers worked until i went to lvl up and then it went right back to being a blank portrait. no one else's portrait has this issue, just player character.

i have the same problem. 2 of my chars portraits are black... very annoying.

I find it funny that I have this problem ONLY when I'm playing with a specific friend, might be hardware related?

most of my other companions backgrounds are black, but at least you can still see their faces.

The ONLY thing that worked for me was combining the 2 popular solutions.

1. Resetting Shadows from High to Low restarting the game and resetting back to High.
2. Paying Withers for a respec.

Doing either one alone didn't work. Doing both did. But YMMV, It worked "this time" but who knows if it will work when/if it happens again.

thats what i do. it doesn't work every time, but it's the only thing that works at all.

I can suggest these two steps:

1. Go to camp
2. Change character appearance with the magic mirror and confirm changes

Any minor change works, and after that you may change appearance again back to normal.

This makes the character icon to refresh thus removing any bugs within it. It worked for me when my main character got a black background bug after leveling up.

This is a super odd issue, and one that I haven't experienced in two plays-through, using almost all of the characters. My gut feeling is that it's either a hardware issue, or a dx11/Vulkan thing. Have you tried switching from one to the other and seeing if it helps?

I get a weird one where shadowheart has purple hair in her portrait. I just try to ignore it.

The portrait glitch is in their divinity games too, at this point its a feature.

Try setting shadows to high before leveling up.
Works for me.

I have a Shadowheart with white hair in my game who's portrait has black hair but in a multiplayer game I'm playing she has black hair and a portrait with white hair.
