For AMD users who are crashing.
If you have AMD built system, meaning your CPU and GPU is a combination of AMD products I have found one solution to a crashing problem.

1. Access your AMD: Adrenalin Software
2. In search bar type: "Smart Access Memory"
3. If it's ON by default, turn it OFF.
4. Go to your Steam Library and open Baldur's Gate 3 properties.
5. In Steam Launcher type in: "--skip-launcher" <---(*or just copy this*)
6. Once in the game, go to Options>Video and cap frame rate to anything below 120.

After recent AMD update I have a hunch that new Driver clashed with Baldur's Gate 3 patch. More specifically AMDs' resizable bar called "Smart Access Memory" in short SAM.

For me it says it's unavailable for some reason in the Adrenalin Software.

Running 7900xt and 5800x3D

What card are you using? There's no smart access memory in my Adrenaline, I have a RX 6700. No crashing at all either but I was curious (my CPU is Intel).

You must have Ryzen CPU and AMD GPU in order for SAM to be available

Don't you also need to enable this in BIOS? I do remember that I had to turn something on in bios ... I don't remember what it was :)

I switched to dx11 on amd and NEVER crashed again in 200 hours. Not turning off the best feature my graphics card has to use broken ass vulkan.

Vulkan, DX11 did not matter for me until I turned off that Smart Access Memory. And now no more crashes.

Just wanted to chime in. I had BIG crashing problems in Grymforge.
Tried to turn off SAM as OP told and limit framerate 120. Only thing that has worked thus far. went from constant crashes every (5-10) minutes, to 1 hour no problems. Maybe a little early to say if it's a definitive fix, but much better than before!
I'm running on RX 6950 XT and Ryzen 7 5700x. 1440p - ultra setting. in Vulkan.

I have to add to this discussion because it's so weird...I don't have SAM available (I'm on a Ryzen+AMD system, but it's old...2600+590). I might have to check my bios to see if the option THERE is enabled, but since it's greyed out in Adrenaline, I can't turn it on...I don't know, it makes no sense. I installed the latest driver update and had it reset every single setting to default. The game did run for a bit longer but it crashed anyway after a few minutes in the Grymforge.
I sure hope Larian is aware of this and is working on a definitive fix...

I noticed one thing. After passing through Grymforge onto ACT II, the game becomes stable with current settings. Tried to revert back to old settings with SAM applied and I would start crashing again but not every 5 minutes, more like every 1 or 2 hours. So that definitely shows that there is a problem with Drivers on AMD side and a Grymforge problem from Larian's side. Hope to god patch #2 fixes some of these issues and AMD delivering a stable driver update on next roll out.

I dont have access to SAM - its greyed out and "unavailable". I cant use DX11 as it crashes every 5 min or less in every game state, Vulkan has worked for me with only periodic crashes but Grymforge it crashes every 2-3mins reliably.

Try turning off V-sync and go from full screen to borderless window.
Errant_Cipher Aug 31, 2023 @ 3:04am
Hey All, hope this helps some of you as well. Running AMD CPU and a Radeon VII (no SAM) using V-Sync for 4k TV and capped frame rate. I had zero crashes using Vulkan until Grymforge, particularly up on the ramparts of the fort.. switched to DX11, disabled FSR, and was able to fully explore and fight do all fights in the zone thus far. If you are still running into crashes, trying fiddling with shadows and/or anti-aliasing. Good luck :dwarven:
