Gale Romance problems..

I've been trying to romance Gale in my singleplayer playthrough but I'm running into a problem and I wonder if a 'fix' excists or if I'm just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ out of my romance option with him now.. I took him with me in my party from the beginning, my approval rating with him is maxed out but I barely triggered ANYTHING with him at all. I got one cutscene where he tried to teach my character magic to which I picked all the 'romantic' options and that's about it. I did feed him all his artifacts and I did the whole elminster thing too, I talked to him every time I was at camp but just..nothing.. In the meanwhile Astarion got all romantic with my character too so I decided to just pursue that for the time being, triggered a 'big' romance cutscene with Astarion and all of a sudden Gale is all jealous and going "I thought we had a thing, now choose me or him" ..which was super odd because nothing really happened between us aside from the magic teaching thing..So alright..I broke it off with Astarion and picked Gale..played for another 2 hours orso and finally Gale's big romance scene triggers. But here's the problem..I only ever get to pick 'friend' options..NOTHING romantic at ALL..the scene ended pretty much without any of the romancey things that were supposed to happen triggering..I'm super confused why this even happened, I dropped every other male character and I specifically choose "I choose you Gale" when he confronted me about the fling I had with Astarion. Then I had to re-load my game to a point way before I dumped Astarion for Gale and replay the whole damn thing. How can I even romance Gale if nothing ever triggers for him eventhough I have max approval rating??

I have been waiting for the romance with Gale since alpha and at this point I feel like he is bugged to no end. But with the enough persistence, patience and, let's be honest, an unhealthy stubbornness you can also do it!

You have triggered a weave scene and imagined him kissing you, right? This should have been the very beginning of Act 1. Mind you that the cheeky romance itself does not happen till the middle of Act 2, not unlike other companions who can be romanced at the tiefling party.

Before starting Act 2 (or just at the start), you should have met Elminster. Without spoilers, that's also rather important conversation that you two will have.

After that another important milestone is his comment about you and how nice you look, all battle-weary. In my playthrough this happened right as we entered the shadow-cursed lands, after the very first fight. My party went through the Shar temple and then had the encounter with Harpers and some blights.

And then you just keep on going organically, discovering Last Night Inn and Moonrise Towers. Romance should happen right after your first visit to Moonrise and then returning to camp. Gale's projection should be there and he should invite you to the conversation.

There is also a big bug with him in the beginning of Act 3, but it's a bit of a spoilery area, so just let me know if you want to know more about it or not.

The problem is, I did all of what you just said and I got all of those things to happen (I'm close to ending act 2). I had his mirror image waiting for me with an invitation to a more secluded spot but I'm only getting 'friend' options during that conversation, not 'romance' options. It ends with him just wanting me to sit next to him and look at the stars. I don't know what I did wrong because I always ever picked all of the romance options and he's always in my party and max approval. The only thing I can think up that might've messed something up is me romancing Astarion in between. I did break it off with Astarion and literally said to Gale "I choose you" when he confronted me, but during the cutscene..I literally get friendzoned.

Ouch :/ Then I think this is one of the bugs that are associated with him, sadly. Question is, do you want to sacrifice all played hours to return to the save before Astarion thing? That's probably the only thing that got wrong.

Alternatively, it might be the new bug since in the recent patch notes they mentioned that Gale's romance options were patched and it was easier to stay just friends with him.

I tried but the save file disappeared for some reason :( it seems steam only allows for a certain ammount of save files and just deletes others if you have too many. I think I'll just have to give it another shot in a new playthrough. Thanks for your kind answers in any case~

Ah, yep, the quick-saves are limited to certain amount, sadly.
