gear
I finished my first campaign yesterday with 110 hours and really enjoyed the game but i started thinking about the fact that my main had the same adamantine splint armour that he got from act 1 all the way to the end with nothing comparing to it. Have i just been unlucky with drops and vendors?

The adamantine scale & splint armor are most likely the best armors in the game because they offer crit immunity (if an enemy manages to get advantage on you he has at least 10% crit chance and some enemies have 100% crit chance -> garrot f*ckers in Shadowland). Only grims helm has it too afaik. These armors have 16 / 18 AC and the reeling effect adds indirect -1 attack = 1 AC more which means they have 17/19 AC.

The best heavy armor i found was 20 AC from vendor 21 from a boss (house of hope?)

For medium armor AC16 to buy and a unique AC15 medium armor in Last Light Inn which adds total dex bonus on top (AC15+5 dex = 20 AC) which is also nice.

For heavy armor you can choose between maybe 10% less chance to get hit for crit immunity and for medium armor the unique armor but the problem is you would need a hero with 20 dex and capable of wearing medium armor to get 3-4 more AC.

You can't be unlucky with drops, because the loot / equipment like that is static. You're missing content or missing vendors, because there's better Heavy Armor than Adamantine Splint.

Extremely. Most of the good stuff doesn't drop, it's quest rewards from ending act 3 quests. Most importantly companion ones. There's some hella good heavy from Wyll's.

Ketheric's Armor is a better version of Adamantine Splint, and there's no way you could have possibly missed it. Raphael also drops better armor than both of those if you fight him.

You could also argue the Armor of Agility you can buy from the armorer in Baldur's Gate is better than Adamantine Splint on a high dex character, although that depends on whether you value AC or damage reduction more.

Kethric's armor gives the same and a flat 3 instead of 2 reduction to damage along with a few spells, the armor Raphael drops gives 21 ac, passive burning if you save against a spell, and wearing it gives proficiency so anyone can. I personally swapped my heavy armor character to Kethric's and gave Gale the set from Raphael because a wizard with 24 ac is great. Thing is the Adamantine gear, not just the split mail, is just really good (5e is to blame there). I kinda like it though, sometimes gear SHOULDN'T be invalidated by something potentially common later on, makes fully exploring act 1 feel more rewarding.

Naa, Adamantine is definitely not the best armors in the game. Not even close with your reasoning.

There's also multiple helmets with Crit immunity on them.

Helldusk Helmet -

Infernal Sight: can see in Magical and ordinary darkness up to 12m, and can't be blinded

MAgical Durability: +2 bonus to Saving Throws against spells

Crit immunity

Immolating Gaze Class action

Helm of Balduran -

Helmet heals you for 2 HP at the beginning of every turn

+1 bonus to AC and Saving throws

Stun immunity and Crit immunity.

Best Heavy Armor from Vendor is Armor of Persistence -

20 AC

Magical Plate: all damage reduced by 2

Legendary Persistence: You gain Blade Ward and Resistance (permanent)
