Accidently skipped underdark?
So I read you should do mountain pass before underdark, and so I did.
I assumed the Story will lead me to the underdark but now I am in Baldurs gate and it is too late????
Did I miss a lot of good quests or only exp and loot?

Who said you should do mountain pass before underdark?
And why read a guide on the sequence of things?
Because yes, you missed a lot of really cool stuff.
Also, before going to the shadowfell the game even warns you this is a point of no return.

>Read guides
>Don't read dialogues
They are supposed to be two different paths to the same place. Though you can easily do them both.

You just took a different path. Means you get to experience the whole underdark fresh your next playthrough.

The game is designed for you to choose your own path in each run; it's not necessary to visit all possible places or complete all the quests. However, doing so will significantly reduce the difficulty of the game in the following acts.

speaking of this, I got this message, promptly said okay and traveled to the dark town area. but was immediately able to go back to the earlier areas and go over the mountain pass. Im not entirely sure what they meant to block us from with that.

The Underdark is as big as the surface, for your information.
You may enter it from multiple points.
You missed a lot indeed :)
Especially if you didn't do Grimforge neither in the continuity.

Towards the end of act 2 is a point of no return that locks you out of act 1 areas
Similarly, act 3 locks you out of anything thats not act 3
